A pair of AL East Division heavyweights will collide for the third of a four-game set this evening. Both the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees carry 3-2 records into Wednesday night’s showdown in the Bronx. Each team has earned a win in this series so far. After Toronto picked up a shutout win on Monday, New York managed to return the favor last night. Given how loaded MLB betting analysts predict the division to be, even these early-season head-to-head matchups carry plenty of weight. Oddsmakers favor the home team by a fairly hefty amount ahead of tonight’s matchup. This prediction has a lot to do with the projected Blue Jays vs Yankees starting pitchers.

This Blue Jays vs Yankees MLB betting preview includes key game info, projected starting pitchers, betting odds, trends and a prediction for Wednesday’s matchup. But first, let’s take a look at this BetMGM promo that’s giving away free money!

    Toronto Blue Jays Team Preview

Tuesday night saw the Blue Jays’ offense fail to generate a single run. Considering all of the talent that litters this lineup, such occurrences figure to be an anomaly over the course of the full MLB betting season. In fact, Toronto only mustered five total hits, two of which came courtesy of George Springer. The three total runs scored in the first two games of this series against the Yankees is less than the Blue Jays scored in each individual game of their opening series against Texas.

Speaking of that series against the Rangers, Jose Berrios certainly has to be itching to rebound. The 27-year-old took the mound for Toronto on Opening Day and failed to record more than a single out. Despite Berrios giving up three hits, two walks, a homer and four total runs in 1/3 of an inning, the Jays managed to rally and win the game. Given that the Yankees’ bats have been fairly quiet through five games, perhaps the righthander can bounce back tonight in the Bronx.

    New York Yankees Team Preview

One of the biggest questions regarding the legitimacy of the Yankees as a championship contender coming into the season was the team’s pitching depth. Although it is early, the fact that New York earned a shutout win with No. 5 starter Nestor Cortes starting last night’s game is a positive sign. One night after being shut out, the Yankees returned the favor with a 4-0 win. D.J. LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres supplied four of the team’s seven total hits. Aaron Hicks also went yard as the Yankees snapped a mini two-game losing skid.

New York gets the nod from MLB betting oddsmakers as the favorite ahead of tonight’s game. One has to believe the fact that ace Gerrit Cole will be on the hill is a key component of this handicap. It is worth noting that the righthander was far from dominant in his own Opening Day outing last week. Cole ceded three runs on four hits to Boston and only lasted four innings. The matchup between the Yankees’ ace and the loaded Blue Jays lineup figures to be enthralling this evening.

Blue Jays vs Yankees Prediction | MLB Betting Picks

Very few players have gotten off to as strong a start swinging the bat as George Springer. The Blue Jays outfielder enters Wednesday night’s matchup with a streak of four consecutive games with at least two hits. Springer has a .409 batting average on the young season thus far and also already has two home runs to his name.

While MLB betting oddsmakers are fully justified in favoring the Yankees due to the presence of Gerrit Cole as tonight’s starter, Springer actually has success against the veteran pitcher in his career. Springer has six total plate appearances against his former Houston Astros teammate. Four of those matchups have resulted in a hit. Springer has a pair of singles and two doubles off of Cole. Considering these historical numbers along with his torrid start to the 2022 season and a plus-money price on Springer to exceed 1.5 total bases is worth a look.

Blue Jays vs Yankees Prediction: George Springer Over 1.5 Total Bases (+129 at Bovada Sportsbook)
