The following is a complete Bennedict Mathurin draft profile including stats, highlights and an NBA Mock Draft projection.
Bennedict Mathurin NBA Draft Profile, Stats, Highlights and Projection
One would have to search high and low on the 2022 NBA Draft big board to find a player who expanded his game from his freshman to sophomore seasons more than Bennedict Mathurin. In his first season at Arizona, Mathurin’s role was simply that of a spot-up three-point shooter. Thanks to his exceptional athleticism, he was tasked with doing a whole lot more as a sophomore. Despite increased responsibilities at both ends, Mathurin maintained a three-point shooting clip of 37%. He also has exceptional passing abilities and a tremendous feel for the game. Whether it’s pick-and-roll or out in transition, Mathurin can operate an offense and make the right reads regardless of the situation.
Weaknesses
Unfortunately, a propensity to commit turnovers sort of comes with the territory of being a player who is willing to make risky passes. Threading the needle against NBA-caliber defenders will only prove to be more difficult. Mathurin will also need to become a better scorer off the dribble if he is to truly take the next step offensively. At the other end of the floor is where most of his weaknesses reside. Mathurin has shown promise as a lockdown defender but will need to polish his craft in order to achieve his full potential. He has poor footwork on closeouts, struggles to fight over screens and has a tendency to get overaggressive in traffic and commit careless fouls.
