The Cincinnati Bengals’ director of player personnel met with the media on Wednesday and talked about the possibility of a trade down. According to Bengalswire.com, Duke Tobin said the team has talked about trade downs with others, but the main focus for the team is to remain in range of a “top-flight” talent.

Tobin told Geoff Hobson that “we have discussed with teams all the time about potentials and are you willing to talk about it,” he said. “Yeah, we’re willing to talk about it. It has to be right. I don’t anticipate going down to a point where we’re losing the level of player we’re looking at right now. I think we’re in a good spot in this draft to get one of the guys who is a premier talent.”

Will the Bengals Trade Down in 2021 NFL Draft?

The Bengals have the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Speculation is that it would take a “monster offer” for Cincinnati to move out of the fifth spot at this point, Hobson’s article stated.

The Bengals are rumored to be looking at Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell or former LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

There is speculation that Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow has been vocal that he would like to see the team select Chase. But Bengals do not agree.

“There is no active lobbying for one or the other,” Tobin added. “I do think he’s aware of the universe and on board with anybody we choose from that universe. We are going to do what we think is best to make Joe as successful as we can because the more successful he is, the more successful the Bengals will be.”
