The MLB Playoffs continue on Tuesday afternoon with Game 4 of the American League Division Series between the Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox. Originally scheduled for Monday, this game was pushed back a day due to rain. After an offensive outburst in Game 3 on Sunday, both clubs will be hoping that an unplanned rest day helps their respective pitching staff. Can Chicago tie up this best-of-five series and force a decisive fifth game? The MLB betting odds view this Astros vs White Sox showdown as a toss-up game.

Houston Astros Preview

The Astros quickly rebounded after surrendering a 1st inning run in Game 3 of the ALDS. The Houston lineup seemed to pick up right where it left off in Games 1 and 2 by scoring five runs over the next two innings. Unfortunately, that 5-1 lead quickly melted away. The Astros failed to generate much offense of any kind during the back half of Game 3 against the White Sox bullpen. Kyle Tucker homered and doubled in what proved to be a four-RBI game. Alex Bregman also had two of Houston’s six total hits in Game 3 while Carlos Correa scored a pair of runs. The Astros will need a much better pitching effort across the board on Tuesday if they hope to win this MLB betting series in four games.

Monday’s rainout has enabled Dusty Baker to make a change in terms of his starting pitcher for Game 4. Instead of the originally scheduled Jose Urquidy, Baker will opt to come back with Game 1 starter Lance McCullers Jr. on the road this afternoon. McCullers sparkled in the series-opener, allowing just four hits over 6.2 shutout innings. That being said, quieting the Chicago bats in their home park could prove to be a bit tougher to accomplish.

Chicago White Sox Preview

After a pair of frustrating games down in Houston, the White Sox offense busted out in a big way on Sunday night. The friendly confines of Guaranteed Rate Field helped jumpstart Chicago’s offense, even after they faced the early four-run deficit in an elimination game. The White Sox accounted for 16 total hits in the 12-6 Game 3 victory. Home runs by Leury Garcia and Yasmani Grandal in the 3rd inning helped erase the early deficit. The two players combined to drive in seven total runs in the game altogether. Garcia was one of five White Sox to record multiple hits in the offensive affair. Tim Anderson led the team with three total knocks while Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada and Gavin Sheets all joined Garcia with two apiece.

While the rainout means that the White Sox will have to contend with McCullers in Game 4, it was also a very timely postponement for Tony La Russa’s bullpen. After starter Dylan Cease was chased very early on Sunday night, the extra day of rest was much-needed for Chicago’s relievers. Unlike the Astros, the White Sox will stick with the originally scheduled Carlos Rodon as their starting pitcher in today’s MLB betting showdown. At one point, Rodon was a leading candidate to bring home the AL Cy Young Award. He missed a few starts with an injury during the second half though. Rodon still finished the year with 13 wins and an impressive 0.96 WHIP. He also shut down the Astros in both regular-season outings against them. Rodon allowed a total of four hits and one earned run in 14 innings pitched between the two starts.
