Houston Astros Preview

The last thing the Astros could afford was to drop the first two games of this MLB betting World Series on their home turf. The offense got started early and stayed hot to ensure that such a scenario did not transpire. Jose Altuve doubled to lead off the bottom of the first and scored later in the frame to set the tone. He would later add a homer as part of a two-hit effort. Michael Brantley had two hits bringing his World Series total to five through the first two games. Kyle Tucker also continued his stellar postseason with a hit and run scored. All told, seven different Astros supplied at least one hit on Wednesday after much of the lineup was dormant in Game 1. Jose Urquidy got it done on the mount, finishing with seven strikeouts over five solid innings.

Drawing the start tonight for Dusty Baker and the Astros is right-hander Luis Garcia. After getting roughed up in each of his first two postseason outings, Garcia threw a gem in Houston’s ALCS-clinching Game 6 victory over the Boston Red Sox. He allowed just one hit and struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings. Garcia likely could have gone much further if not for the importance of the game and Baker opting to pull him at the first sign of trouble. He garnered a reputation for his salsa-style wind-up and will look to silence the Braves’ bats this evening.

Atlanta Braves Preview

The Braves entered Game 2 of this MLB betting series on Wednesday night feeling pretty good about their position. With one of their best pitchers on the mound in Max Fried, Atlanta had a great chance to win each of the first two games of the World Series on the road. Such hopes were ultimately dashed thanks to Houston’s quick start offensively. Travis d’Arnaud tried to counter with a solo homer in the top half of the second inning, but it simply wasn’t enough. d’Arnaud finished with two hits and scored both of Atlanta’s runs in the loss. The Braves as a team finished with seven hits just one night after the entire lineup had at least one knock. Freddie Freeman delivered the other Game 2 RBI in the fifth inning.

Brian Snitker faces a daunting task in trying to piece together his rotation for the rest of the World Series. The last thing the Braves needed after losing Charlie Morton to a broken leg in Game 1 was for Fried to get rocked in Game 2. Tonight, Snitker’s decision is clear as he will ride with right-hander Ian Anderson. After posting modest regular-season numbers, Anderson has come up huge for the Braves in the MLB betting postseason. Most recently, he allowed just one run on three hits over four innings in the NLCS-clinching win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Braves have won all three of Anderson’s postseason starts to date. Interestingly, all three have also come in the friendly confines of Truist Park.
