The Arizona Wildcats and Clemson Tigers will face off in the Sweet 16 of the 2024 NCAA Basketball Tournament. Arizona continued to win in the second round of March Madness, taking down Dayton 78-68. Clemson took care of business in an upset matchup against Baylor, cruising to a 72-64 win. With the Tigers posting one of the biggest upsets of the tournament over a really good Baylor team, it may be a little difficult to make an Arizona vs Clemson prediction.

While Arizona has seemingly struggled in advancing far in the tournament as of late, this year’s team may be one of the best they ever had. The Wildcats have one of the most efficient offenses and defenses this season. That all starts with Pac-12 Player of the Year Caleb Love. Love is a bonafide superstar in college basketball today. While inconsistencies still persist, Love is a much better player than he was at North Carolina. With Oumar Ballo being a force on the inside and Pelle Larson being the best third option in the country, the Wildcats are a wagon. Defensively, they only allow 71.9 PPG. The Wildcats have locked in on both offense and defense in the tournament this year, something that I would imagine continues against Clemson.
For Clemson, the Tigers have been playing good basketball as of late. After losing three of the last four games before the tournament, many thought Clemson would be a popular upset pick. Instead, they took down a good New Mexico team, before upsetting a really good Baylor team. Their entire team runs through P.J. Hall, who is a dominant force inside on both the offense and defense. Scoring 18.5 PPG, Hall shoots 49% from the field and will step out and hit a three from time to time. Chase Hunter and Joe Girard provided incredible shooting and experience while being able to match up against other guards. Finally, Clemson does have one of the most underrated players in the country to help them though. Ian Schieffelin is an undersized forward, who plays like he is seven feet. Against Baylor, he totaled 11 points, six rebounds and three assists.
If Clemson is going to pull off this upset, they need to start by getting Oumar Ballo in foul trouble. Luckily, with the skill of Hall, that feat can be achieved. Hall is almost automatic when it comes to scoring in the paint. If he can continue that trend, Ballo is going to have his hands fall all game long. On the flip side, Hall needs to stay out of foul trouble. Ballo’s size alone is going to give Clemson headaches, so as soon as he touches the ball, he may need to be doubled. The problem with that is who are you going to double off of? In reality, Clemson is going to need to hope Arizona is going to miss shots in order to win this game. For our Sweet 16 Arizona vs Clemson prediction, we are picking the Arizona Wildcats to win and move on in the NCAA Tournament.
