Anthony Edwards College Highlights

Strengths

Anthony Edwards showed a tremendous amount of athleticism during his time at Georgia. Edwards, who just turned 19 in August, won’t be just a developmental project. He will be thrusted into a wing scoring role right away. Edwards is a capable scorer from both outside and inside, proved by his 19.1 PPG on 40%/29%/77%. Due to his athleticism, he should be able to consistently finish in the paint against smaller guards. With his size and athleticism, he is a good rebounder at the two position (5.2 RPG in college). Edwards also possesses a quick first step that he uses to get down the lane and dunk in traffic. Edwards’ biggest strength, though, is his competitiveness. On the young side of 19 years old, Edwards should have the confidence to play with the best wing players in the NBA.

Weaknesses

What worries me the most about Edwards is that he may try to do too much, too early. This can result in turnovers and delayed development, due to him being in his own head. Due to playing at Georgia, many people may not know who he is, which can result in him trying to do too much to prove himself. Edwards’ movement off of the ball is also concerning, as he often finds himself standing and waiting for the ball, rather than finding spots on the court.

NBA Draft 2020 Prediction

Minnesota Timberwolves (No. 1)

Assuming that Minnesota doesn’t trade out of the number one pick, Edwards can immediately be an impact wing scorer. Edwards can work very well with D’Angelo Russell, as they both complement each other’s weaknesses. Being put into a young corps with Russell, Jarrett Culver and Karl Anthony-Towns may create a solid chemistry and contribute to many wins for years to come. Edwards should be the number one pick and immediately play a vital role in the Timberwolves’ run at the playoffs.
