Strengths

Simply put, Ladd McConkey has terrific route-running skills. His smooth movements and crisp cuts keep defenders off balance, consistently gaining separation. Additionally, he effectively manipulates defenders’ leverage while maintaining enough speed to threaten deep coverage.

McConkey has strong hands that allow him to reel in passes thrown away from his body. Although not a jump-ball receiver, he consistently came up with impressive catches on passes that were thrown low and to the sides.

Weaknesses

McConkey lacks the physicality and strength that is required to become one of the league’s premier wideouts. It can cause issues beating the press and coming up with certain contested catches over cornerbacks. Still, McConkey understands who he is as a receiver and gets the best out of his skillset because of it.

What to Expect From Ladd McConkey in 2024

McConkey should be able to do what he does best in 2024, even as a rookie. He will be an effective route runner in the short-to-intermediate game and convert third downs. His reliable hands should make him a trusted target despite the lack of experience. The Chargers needed a replacement for Keenan Allen to work underneath, and Ladd McConkey should fill this role well.
