One of the most significant sporting events, the FEI European Dressage Championship 2023, has begun with a bang and will run till September 10 at the recently expanded Riesenbeck International, Germany.
Just like at the Longines Global Champions Tour in July, the U25 dressage riders will get a chance to showcase their potential in front of a large audience in the first part of the Piaff Sponsorship Prize competition.
While the Piaff Förderpreis, the Dressage Master Class, and a foal action are scheduled on Saturday, one day before the show event, the Team medals will be awarded on September 7, Individual medals on September 8, and freestyle medals on the last day, September 10.
Danes won the gold medal at the World Championships on their home turf last year and would be looking to repeat that performance at the European Championships.
Another favorite contender to win the European Championship, defending champion Jessica von Bredow-Werdnl, will be representing their country, Germany, and would like to meet the expectations as they do most of the time.
Looking at British combinations, three of the silver medal-winning teams from last year’s World Championships are participating in the event: Lottie Fry on Glamourdale, Charlotte Dujardin on Imhotep, and Gareth Hughes on Classic Briolinca.
Moreover, all three bronze-winning riders for Britain at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Lottie, Charlotte (mentioned above already), and Carl Hester, are participating in the European competition, along with two of the horses from that team: Everdale and En Vogue.
