With yet another week of ACC basketball behind us, fans and writers are getting a better idea of the contenders in the NCAA. With every team playing at least five conference college basketball games, some teams have started to separate themselves.

Miami is one of the teams who is a surprise, currently leading the ACC. Florida State currently sits in fourth place after a three-game win streak. Virginia finds itself at eighth in the conference.

As COVID-19 rages on, Duke picked up a huge win over Wake Forest and North Carolina took down Georgia Tech. Boston College has cooled off, as their overall record has dipped below .500.

ACC Basketball Weekly Headlines

The ACC played a total of 14 games this week, all of them being conference games. The big news came out of Duke, as Coach K was absent for their game against Wake Forest. Jon Scheyer led the Blue Devils to victory, in something that Blue Devil fans will get used to seeing. Wake Forest rebounded from this loss, with a win over Virginia. The Cavaliers also took down in-state rival Virginia Tech in one of the better games in the conference this week.

Florida State Extends Their Win Streak to Three

The Florida State Seminoles traveled to Syracuse to take on the Orange. Caleb Mills hit five threes, scoring 19 points to lead the way for the Seminoles. Rayquan Evans added another 15 points. Two of Mills’ threes came in crunch time, as he hit two in a row to push the lead to 67-64 with just under five minutes left. With just over two and half minutes left, Florida State’s Wyatt Wilkes hit a three to push the lead to 72-68.

The Orange stormed back with a free throw and a Buddy Boeheim basket to sneak within one. Syracuse forced a turnover with just over thirty seconds to go. A Boeheim miss and a Seminoles fast-break dunk iced the game for Florida State. Boeheim led the Orange in scoring with 18. Joe Girard III added another 11. The win by the Seminoles allows them to sneak into the fourth spot in ACC basketball rankings.

Virginia Outlasts Virginia Tech

Virginia outlasted Virginia Tech, as the Cavaliers finished the game on a 6-0 run. Francisco Caffaro poured in a career-high 16 points and nine rebounds for the Cavaliers. With 1:30 left in the game, Armaan Franklin gave Virginia a one-point lead by hitting two free throws. Kihei Clark added another free throw with 13 seconds left to put Virginia up two.

On the Hokies’ final possession, Hunter Cattoor missed a game-winning three. The ball was rebounded and kicked out to Storm Murphy who also missed a three as the game ended.
