Fantasy Football RB Pickups for Week 5
Rachaad White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (49.9%)
The fantasy football world is in a panic when it comes to the Buccaneers’ backfield. No one is exactly sure what the status of Bucky Irving is after he got an MRI and is reportedly getting additional opinions for an apparent ankle injury that he sustained last week. While he is officially deemed questionable and has not been ruled out for Week 5, some doctors on X suggest that he could be sidelined for multiple weeks! Now, the whole “Twitter Doctor” phenomenon is still pretty hilarious to me, but that’s beside the point. Whether Irving plays on Sunday or not, Rachaad White must be prioritized among fantasy football RB pickups.
The fact that the Bucs were trailing for the better part of their game this past week likely had a role in White playing a season-high 42% snap share. His receiving stats were also high-water marks for the season in defeat. It seems fair to expect White to command an even greater snap share in Week 5 with Irving hobbled. The matchup isn’t necessarily ideal, as the Seattle Seahawks rank third in defensive EPA/play against the run through four weeks. That said, White is clearly among the RB streamers options for Week 5 with the most upside given the uncertainty surrounding Irving.
For those in deeper leagues with an extra roster spot, Sean Tucker (0.9%) may be worth considering for fantasy football RB pickups as well, at least until we get some clarity regarding this situation.
Blake Corum, Los Angeles Rams (17.8%)
It was tough sledding for Blake Corum in all facets this past week. That said, his usage rate remained promising. Despite being on the field for just 22 of the Rams’ offensive snaps, Corum tallied nine carries and four targets in the passing game. To be clear, this is still very much Kyren Williams’ backfield. However, it is worth noting that the fact that Los Angeles plays on Thursday night this week could potentially lead to a little more balance with it being a short week.
Speaking of that Thursday Night Football showdown, the Rams will be up against a division rival in the San Francisco 49ers. While the Niners rank tenth in overall EPA/play defensively, they are only 16th against the run in this statistic. They have allowed the seventh-fewest PPR points to opposing RBs, but a big reason for this is the fact that they have only allowed two total touchdowns to the position. With all of the injuries plaguing the 49ers, there’s a chance that this road game on short rest gets away from them. If the Rams are comfortably in front, this figures to bode well for Corum’s chances of getting some increased run.
Corum’s upside as a plug-and-play streamer remains risky, but he is getting enough touches to warrant consideration in what could be a favorable game script this week. Plus, his long-term outlook as a low-owned fantasy football RB pickups candidate at this point in the season is solid.
More Fantasy Football Streamers Week 5
Zavier Scott, Minnesota Vikings (1.6%)
For the past two weeks, Zavier Scott has been featured in the FlurrySports fantasy football waiver wire column as a widely available option. This week, we are doubling down on the recommendation and also recommending him among the fantasy football RB pickups who can be streamed into starting lineups. In the two games since Aaron Jones began his stint on IR, Scott has played 28% and 38% of the Vikings’ offensive snaps, respectively. His role is clear as the passing-down back working in complement to Jordan Mason. Last week in Dublin, Scott saw eight targets come his way as Minnesota played from behind.
Now, it seems far less likely that the Vikings will be trailing the Cleveland Browns on the scoreboard in London this coming Sunday. However, Minnesota could encounter similar struggles with regard to running the ball as was the case last week. Defending the run is the strength of the Browns’ defense. They rank fourth in defensive EPA/play against the run coming in. While Cleveland has also been tough against opposing RBs from a fantasy scoring standpoint, these stats don’t exactly spell doom for Scott, given how he is being utilized.
Furthermore, if the Vikings’ offensive line struggles to pass protect against Myles Garrett and Co., Scott could find himself being a popular check-down option for Carson Wentz in this matchup. For those in need of RB help this week, Scott’s low ownership suggests that he is almost certainly available in your league.
