While he had a down year in his last year in college football, there are still a lot of positives and highlights when evaluating the Luther Burden III draft profile. Burden came into his third season in college football with high expectations after a wonderful sophomore season, but Missouri’s inconsistency greatly limited Burden’s ceiling. In his three seasons, though, the Tigers were unable to capitalize on Burden’s skills, totaling 28 wins and missing out on the college football playoffs each year. Even though that was the case, Burden comes into the 2025 NFL Draft as one of the top receivers in the class.

When is the 2025 NFL Draft?
The 2025 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 24, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The draft will take place in Green Bay, WI, which brings plenty of potential challenges. Only Round 1 will take place on Thursday. Rounds 2-3 will take place on April 25th, with the remaining four rounds wrapping up on Sunday, April 26th. There will be 257 players selected across the seven rounds, with many more getting phone calls immediately afterward.
Luther Burden III Scouting Profile
Strengths
When looking at Burden, the thing that jumps off the chart is his athleticism. Coming out of high school, Burden was recruited to Missouri as a five-star recruit and one of the best receivers in the country. That athleticism that has carried him to the NFL has shown its face when it comes to outrunning defenders off the line and in open space. That speed pairs greatly with his ability to run with the ball after the catch.
Burden has shown great ball skills as well. He snags balls out of the air, whether they are close to his body or not. His deep tracking skills, while not ample, have looked great. In general, Burden can make difficult catches look routine.
Weaknesses
While his hands are great, he has shown a penchant for short-arming catches when in traffic. Burden has worked great underneath, but will have to show that he can excel in mid-deep to become a reliable every-down player. While he has shown great ability to get open on his route running, he needs to work on finishing routes all the way through the end of the pass.
