While cornerbacks may not be the strongest in the 2025 NFL Draft, Jahdae Barron is definitely a player to keep an eye on. Thanks to the fanfare surrounding Travis Hunter in this year’s draft, the 2024 Jim Thorpe Award winner has fewer eyes on him than a cornerback of his caliber usually would. Due to his high level of production in the toughest conference in college football, teams are giddy with the Jahdae Barron draft profile, projecting him to be the next great cornerback in the NFL.

Jahdae Barron Scouting Report
Strengths
One of the biggest assets at Jahdae Barron’s disposal is that he is big and physical as a “nickel” cornerback. He is very good at jamming receivers at the line and did a good job of running routes with the receiver this past year. In the College Football Playoff semifinals against Ohio State, there was a reason the ball wasn’t thrown his way.
However, Barron is much more than a nickel corner. He is as versatile as it gets. Barron not only has the skills to play in the slot, out wide, and back at safety, but he also has logged snaps at all three positions as well.
When a ball is coming into a receiver in his vicinity, he’s really good at swarming while also laying a hard hit and/or getting his hands on the ball to knock it down. He takes good angles on routes and also has shown the ability to see the quarterback’s throw before it happens.
Weaknesses
One of the biggest issues for Barron is that he hasn’t been used as a man-coverage cornerback very often. While that could be a non-factor depending on who drafts him, if a team drafts him to play man coverage, he may need some time to develop and get used to the NFL speed.
While he ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, he sometimes appears to lack the top-end speed on vertical routes over the top as well. Another issue for Barron is that he has been a sub-par tackler to this point in his career, often going for the big hit rather than wrapping up the ball carrier.
