We have three weeks left in the regular season, and now is the time when contenders want to be playing their best football. Instead, this past weekend saw injuries to Patrick Mahomes, TJ Watt, David Montgomery, Geno Smith and more. There is no doubt that this will cause a shake-up at the top of the Week 16 NFL Power Rankings.
Our weekly NFL Power Rankings will be released here on FlurrySports every Tuesday, so make sure to check them out every single week to see which direction your team is trending. As always, these power rankings factor in both how a team is playing right now as well and their actual ability to win a Super Bowl. This seems to be hard to comprehend for some, but I believe you can do it.
NFL Power Rankings For Week 16
1) Kansas City Chiefs (Last Week: 2)
Patrick Mahomes suffered an ankle injury… what year is it? It’s new season, same story for the Kansas City Chiefs. Anyone who believes this injury means the Chiefs are cooked is a fool. However, this offensive line will need to be better in order for this season to avoid ending like the Super Bowl against the Buccaneers.
2) Philadelphia Eagles (3)
A new Christmas album is out, the drama may possibly manufactured for self-motivation, and the Philadelphia Eagles are playing like the best team in the league. With health considered, they are currently the best team in the league. As long as they continue to stay relatively healthy, it’s tough to imagine anyone in the NFC knocking the Eagles out of the playoffs.
3) Detroit Lions (1)
How much is too much? That is the question with the injuries for the Detroit Lions. Detroit lost two more starters on defense this week, and then David Montgomery lost for the year as well. While the offense should still be solid, the Lions have too many injuries on defense to consider them Super Bowl contenders. We will keep them in the top three of the NFL Power Rankings simply out of respect for what they have done, but there is a strong chance they continue sliding.
4) Baltimore Ravens (5)
The Baltimore Ravens’ matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers this week will decide a lot, but they jumped the Steelers due to the key injuries on their side. The Ravens and Lamar Jackson made quite the statement after their bye week. Now, they have to keep playing well on defense and make kicks consistently. If they do this, then they may be the best team in the AFC.
5) Pittsburgh Steelers (4)
The Pittsburgh Steelers lost the game, but the larger concern is the health of TJ Watt. It doesn’t appear serious, but the Steelers have been incapable of winning games without him. They are also without receiver George Pickens, making their passing offense not good at all. The Steelers play the Ravens and Chiefs on the 21st and 25th, which may be two losses, but Pittsburgh’s focus should solely be on getting healthy for the postseason.
6) Buffalo Bills (6)
Many may be upset that the Buffalo Bills are the fourth-ranked AFC team in the NFL Power Rankings. Well, that’s because they are the fourth-best AFC team (thanks to the Chargers’ offensive injuries). Yes, the Bills tore up a Detroit Lions defense that would’ve benefitted from DeAndre Levy coming back to play linebacker this week. The bigger story is that this Buffalo defense really isn’t very good. As always, celebrate the regular season, Bills Mafia.
7) Minnesota Vikings (7)
The Minnesota Vikings beat a bad Bears team — there isn’t much else to say about that. Minnesota took care of business, and they have put themselves in a position to win the NFC North and possibly get the top overall seed. Following the injury to Geno Smith, this is a great week to face the Seahawks as well.
8) Green Bay Packers (9)
The Green Bay Packers continue to play well against the beat-up teams that aren’t very good. Josh Jacobs is playing his best football and Jordan Love looked much better than we have seen him recently, but this team needs to do it against better competition in order for us to take them seriously. The presence of a pass rush was a welcomed sight against Seattle. Now, they should be able to do that against a bad Saints team.
9) Washington Commanders (10)
They tried to lose it, but the Washington Commanders picked up their ninth win of the season this past week. There is no doubt that Jayden Daniels is good enough to beat just about anyone in the league. It’s the defense that is holding this team back, but maybe the long-awaited addition of Marshon Lattimore will take this team to new heights.
10) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (13)
By all accounts, this Tampa Bay Buccaneers team is rolling. Baker Mayfield is playing his best football and Tampa has a running game to balance this offense out. Defensively, they are not the most talented bunch. This will get them in trouble against solid offenses, but Todd Bowles is calling a good enough game to make some plays as well.
