With the seventh overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans draft JC Latham — offensive tackle out of Alabama. While he is getting talked about as one of the better prospects after Joe Alt, there are reasons to believe he can be the best lineman taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. Let’s take a look at what JC Latham brings to the Titans.

    Strengths

JC Latham is an offensive line coach’s wet dream. At just 21 years old, he has a lot of improving yet to do, but he is already damn good. He is a human bulldozer, but his footwork and technique also show up in his protection. And since we last saw him play, Latham dropped 20 pounds. Not only does this show a positive work ethic, but he should be able to move even better in space now.

Latham has little wasted movement, playing with great balance. He has the length to play tackle, and he has the power to be a Day 1 starter as well. JC Latham is a well-coached player who has the potential to develop into a very bright star at right tackle, and he has a bit of experience at guard if need be.

From my personal perspective as an OL coach and scout, I believe JC Latham could be the best offensive lineman of this draft class.

    Weaknesses

While Latham does have the power to start right away, he needs to add a little more strength to his lower body, and hopefully his recent weight loss didn’t lead to a strength loss. He needs to show a bit more patience when engaging on run plays, and he also has shown the tendency to open his outside shoulder too quickly in pass sets. Again, these are coachable weaknesses.

What to Expect From JC Latham in 2024

JC Latham is a Day 1 starter for the Titans, and he has the makings of a potential franchise player. Yes, some of the stronger players will be able to control him a bit in his first year. However, Latham is young, has a great work ethic, and he knows how to use technique to win his matchups. Every rookie lineman has some struggles early in their career, but Latham should be able to pick up the speed of the game quickly.
