    Strengths

Byron Murphy II is a strong, violent defensive lineman who has a great first step. He uses this to initiate the contact, often controlling his matchup. While he doesn’t have much size, Murphy has the strength to create space, and his punch is as good as anyone’s in this draft class.

Murphy doesn’t have to God-given gifts that are usually needed to be elite in the NFL. However, his mentality and competitive spirit do suggest he will still find ways to be effective. It likely won’t be immediately, however.

    Weaknesses

As stated previously, Murphy doesn’t have the length that is often needed to be great in the NFL. With his completion leveling up, he cannot rely on being that much stronger than everyone. Also, double-teams will be an issue for him. Murphy isn’t overall skilled or sophisticated as a pass rusher either, so he will need to put in the work in order to be anything more than a basic rotational piece at the next level.

What to Expect From Byron Murphy II in 2024

While Byron Murphy II is a strong, skilled defensive lineman, he lacks the length to consistently win in the NFL. So, while he will make some plays in his rookie year, he will also have some issues now that he’s matched up with bigger, faster, stronger linemen. If he can find ways to get his opponent’s hands off of him, he will still be able to make plays, but there will be plenty of snaps as a rookie where he gets lost due to his opponent locking on and not letting go.
