The weekend has begun. Injuries from Wednesday, Thursday and Friday’s practices are leaving you in shambles. Maybe your fantasy football league has many members who refuse to leave good players undrafted or not picked up. Fear not, the Week 4 fantasy football waiver wire still exists and there are five fantastic options looming in most leagues – a few of which can potentially START this week.
These are our Week 4 fantasy football waiver wire pickups to make before kickoff on NFL Sunday. To be eligible for this article, players must be owned in under 50% of ESPN fantasy football leagues.
Week 4 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups to Make Now
Richie James, Giants (8.6% ESPN)
When the New York Giants have this depleted of a wide receiver set, the Week 4 fantasy football waiver wire can be a pain to sort through for this team. Outside of Saquon Barkley, there is not much consistency on this offense. But with Sterling Shepard tearing his ACL, Richie James is the next best option. Shepard had 10 targets in back-to-back games (24 on the season); those will now be up for grabs. Richie James is next on the team with 17 targets on the season, DOUBLING the targets of any other wideout.
Look for James to secure at least eight targets this Sunday, hopefully catching six or seven, as he’s shown his catching ability to be like glue.
Josh Reynolds, Lions (1.5% ESPN)
Amon-Ra St. Brown is confirmed OUT for the contest Sunday against Seattle. That’s 33 targets on the season, including nine from last week, that are now up for grabs. DJ Chark and Josh Reynolds had six and 10 targets, respectively, last week. Reynolds having 10 targets last week is nothing short of a good sign, as Jared Goff has been performing very well this season. He should be a full-go, according to Dan Campbell, and if he gets even three of St. Brown’s nine targets from last week, he could be in line for 10 targets again.
Mack Hollins, Raiders (14% ESPN)
EVEN MORE TARGETS TO SHARE. Another injury to an offense brings more open targets to go around on this late edition of the week 4 fantasy football waiver wire. Hunter Renfrow is OUT for the game against Denver. With Renfrow missing last week, Mack Hollins gathered 11 targets for 8=eight catches, 158 yards, and a touchdown. This comes after a week where Renfrow WAS active and Hollins still received eight targets. Hollins is a good second flex/flex option in deeper leagues, as the Raiders seek its first win.
Romeo Doubs, Packers (42% ESPN)
I won’t speak much on Romeo Doubs, as we wrote him up in an earlier fantasy football waiver wire article this week and Lombardi Sweep, our Packers podcast, had been talking about him before he had even been drafted.
However, still widely available across platforms, Doubs looks to continue his relationship with Aaron Rodgers, especially with Allen Lazard fighting through his ankle injury. Doubs leads the team with 16 targets on the season, turning 14 into catches. He should be considered a risky flex option in deeper leagues with high upside against New England’s tough defense.
Minnesota Vikings Defense (12.6% ESPN)
“Did he just put the Minnesota Vikings Defense as a waiver wire option?” Oh, heck yeah I did. The Vikings come up against the team giving the most fantasy points to opponents’ defenses through three weeks (Saints). Jameis Winston has thrown an interception in each of his last two outings, and the team has allowed a touchdown to defenses during both as well. To make matters worse for New Orleans, the Saints are without Michael Thomas, as he is OUT. Look for the Vikings to be a strong defensive start this week across all leagues.
