In a bit of a surprising matchup, the Dallas Mavericks are set to battle the Golden State Warriors for a spot in the NBA Finals. Mavericks vs Warriors Prediction
Many are still shocked at how the Mavericks were able to completely dismantle the top-seeded Phoenix Suns in Game 7 on Sunday night. By winning the series to advance to the Western Conference Finals, the Mavs became the first team in NBA history to win two consecutive playoff series as an underdog of 2-1 odds or longer.
Perhaps what makes Dallas’ run to the conference finals even more impressive is that the team lacks the type of star power that we are used to seeing advance deep into the playoffs. By no means is that a shot at Luka Doncic. He very well may be the best player in the world today. Aside from Doncic, however, the Mavs are primarily a team of overlooked players and three-and-D specialists. Jalen Brunson, Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, Reggie Bullock and Maxi Kleber have all come up huge for the Mavericks in the playoffs.
As for the Warriors, they have yet to be extended beyond a sixth game in this year’s playoffs. Golden State did lose three of four regular-season meetings between these teams. However, the Warriors were not at full strength for any of those games. When it comes to the team’s core, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are all in good health. One concerning name on the Mavericks vs Warriors injury report is Gary Payton II. The Warriors will miss what Payton brings defensively in a big way as they try to slow down the seemingly unstoppable force that is Luka Doncic.
As for our Mavericks vs Warriors prediction, perhaps the best bet one could make ahead of Wednesday’s Game 1 is to bet Dallas to win the series. The series price has come down a bit, but there is still value at +180 odds. That price implies that the Mavs only have a 35% chance to win the Western Conference Finals. As for Game 1, playing OVER the total is the most appealing option. While both teams are extremely sound defensively, we will likely see more offense early on in the series until adjustments are made.
