Kyle Hamilton Draft Profile
Strengths
Kyle Hamilton’s biggest strength that should turn NFL teams on to him is his size. At 6-4, 220 lbs, Hamilton runs a 4.59-second 40-yard dash. He also benefits from his incredible vision. Hamilton is easily able to read a play and with his size and speed make a play on the ball. His size also gives him the potential to play closer to the line of scrimmage, like a hybrid linebacker. Hamilton will make his money in the NFL coming down hard on the ball from the safety position, much like a Keanu Neal or Kam Chancellor. He should also be able to cover big receiving tight ends in the middle of the field.
Weaknesses
One thing that Hamilton may need to work on to get to that superstar level in the NFL is his block shedding. Given that Notre Dame is independent, there was a bit of a gap in the talent level that Hamilton played. His hyper-athleticism and aggressiveness are great, but he will have to play physically with NFL blockers, as opposed to using his speed to get around them. Something else that sticks out is Hamilton can sometimes be too aggressive. We saw him take risks and leave his area to make a play at Notre Dame. There is obviously much less room for error in the NFL to do this.
Hamilton suffered a knee injury in his last year at Notre Dame. While not much was said about the injury, medical staffs for all 32 teams will be doing their homework on the safety.
