Illinois vs Michigan State College Basketball Betting Preview
On Wednesday night, the Fighting Illini became the latest team to fall victim to the incredibly hot Rutgers Scarlet Knights, losing 70-59 in New Jersey. Although they have lost two of three, the other loss coming against Purdue is hardly a blemish on their resume. Sitting just a half-game behind Purdue for first place in the Big Ten with just five games left, Illinois needs to win at least four of those matchups to have a chance to take home the regular season crown. A loss against Michigan State would take away all margin for error for Illinois. A loss would also be Illinois’ eighth of the year which, coupled with a blown opportunity to pick up a ranked win, would be taken into account in their seeding for the NCAA Tournament. This is as “must-win” as it gets without being a “must-win” game.
Michigan State would need a lot to go right to take the Big Ten regular season crown, as they now sit two games out of the lead. A win over Illinois would bolster an already ironclad resume. Out of the Spartans’ seven losses, only three were to unranked teams with one of them being a Rutgers team that is the hottest team in the nation at the moment. Michigan State does need a win to get out of their recent funk, as they have lost three of their last four. With plenty of questions surrounding Michigan State not having a vocal leader or player who can take over a game, this will be another good test to see how they match up against teams they’ll see in March.

Illinois vs Michigan State Prediction | College Basketball Betting Picks
These two teams squared off just over two weeks ago in Champaign, Illinois with the Fighting Illini hanging on late for a 56-55 victory. With a chance to tie the game with two free throws, Malik Hall could only make one with a second left in regulation. The Spartans shot just 34% from the field and 21% from deep, and yet still lost by a single point at one of the toughest road environments in the Big Ten. With their crowd behind them now and an offense that can’t play much worse, the Spartans should rebound. After all, when was the last time a team led by Tom Izzo lost four of five games?
