For a team that was ranked as high as sixth in the country early in the season, Alabama has sure limped through the season since then. While the SEC is one of the strongest conferences in the country yet again, it is the number of unranked losses that is most surprising. Although Alabama has won three straight now, two of them were by two or fewer possessions against teams they are far better than on paper. For whatever reason, the Crimson Tide can always put up a fight against top-tier talent but struggle against those who won’t even touch the NIT. Luckily for Alabama, Kentucky is full of talent and will likely bring out the best in them. Although they lost their last game against Kentucky this year, just average shooting would’ve made that game a toss-up.
Kentucky comes into today’s matchup after their worst performance of the year. The Wildcats were simply trounced by #16 Tennessee, 76-63. Their offense was flat all game and their defense had trouble stopping much of anything. As bad as the game looked for the Wildcats, they are one of the best in the country at bouncing back from defeat. After their previous four losses, the Wildcats have rattled off at least four wins in a row immediately after every time. Now two games behind Auburn for the SEC lead, Kentucky is running out of time and now faces a virtual must-win game. The only question is whether or not they can again answer the bell.
