Vanderbilt’s 73-64 road loss to #16 Tennessee halted their brief two-game winning streak. As has been the case for the Commodores for most of the season, the team rides or dies with the play of Scottie Pippen Jr. Even when he does put up solid numbers, the rest of the team struggles to pick up the slack too often. With their current record, the only chance Vanderbilt realistically has at making the tournament is winning the SEC Tournament or winning out in regular season play. A win on the road against Auburn would be a heck of a start to their postseason push.
After a tough road loss to unranked Arkansas, the Tigers bounced back by dispatching Texas A&M rather easily 75-58. With five of their last six regular season games coming against unranked opponents, Auburn has its sights set on a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament. Auburn has an easy schedule and a solid lead in the SEC. The only thing that can trip them up is going through the motions. With the fans feeling the SEC title all but in their hands, the Tigers should come out fired up and ready to go.

Scottie Pippen Jr. is an incredible talent. He alone has kept the Commodores in games this season that they have had no business of being competitive in. For that reason, it’s impossible to count them out. With that in mind, this isn’t just any other team. This is a Tigers team that has lost just once since Thanksgiving.
Auburn is deeper and more talented across the board than Vanderbilt. Add in the home-court advantage, and Auburn has no reason to lose this game. Although we’ve seen Vanderbilt cover the spread in plenty of games this year that they shouldn’t have, I don’t see that happening against Auburn. If the Tigers can slow Pippen down at all, they’ll cover the spread. I doubt Bruce Pearl and Auburn lets him loose.
