New Orleans Saints Preview
No team has been hit harder by the injury bug this season than the Saints. While they will remain without starting QB Jameis Winston for the remainder of the year, New Orleans is at least starting to get healthier in other areas. Star running back Alvin Kamara was not listed on the final injury report and is set to play for the first time in over a month. Along with Mark Ingram and dual-threat quarterback Taysom Hill, the outlook for the Saints’ offense has improved. While Hill did throw four interceptions and was extremely inaccurate in the loss last week, the fact that the Saints were trailing the entire game doomed them from the onset.
Assuming New Orleans can play with a lead as NFL betting favorites on Sunday, expect Sean Payton to get creative with how he deploys his backfield assets. Of course, the Jets are historically bad on defense this season, so perhaps Hill can put up some passing stats as well. Meanwhile, the Saints’ own defense has continued to play well despite getting no help from the offense. New Orleans ranks fifth in adjusted defensive efficiency and is the top adjusted run defense in the NFL.
New York Jets Preview
The Jets weren’t a particularly strong football team even when healthy this season. Finding themselves well out of the AFC playoff picture late in the year, New York is opting to take a very cautious approach with injured players. Top wide receivers Corey Davis and Elijah Moore were both placed on IR this week. The former is guaranteed to miss the rest of this season. They join star safety Marcus Maye while lead running back Michael Carter will also remain sidelined for Sunday’s NFL betting matchup after not practicing all week. Rookie QB Zach Wilson will certainly be facing an uphill battle in trying to solve a stout Saints defense without his best weapons.
The absence of Marcus Maye certainly hasn’t helped the Jets defensively this season. That being said, it’s hard to fathom that one man could fix how bad New York has been at stopping opponents. The Jets rank dead last in overall adjusted efficiency. Making that statistic even worse is the fact it is adjusted against one of the easiest schedules played of any team. New York gashed for nearly 200 yards on the ground in last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Knowing the construction of the Saints offense, the Jets may allow even more rushing yards on Sunday especially if star linebacker C.J. Mosley is held out due to a back injury.
