The ninth week of the NFL season kicks off on Thursday night with an AFC matchup between the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts. Although both teams come in below .500 for the season, the NFL betting odds are extremely lopsided in favor of the home team. The Colts will aim to prove oddsmakers correct and get back on track following a crushing overtime loss last Sunday. Meanwhile, the Jets will look to shock the NFL world for the second time in five days.

New York Jets Preview
Most people had no idea who Mike White was before this past Sunday. The entire NFL betting world does now. The former fifth-round draft pick out of Western Kentucky showed out in his first career start last Sunday. Not only did White and the Jets shock the AFC-leading Cincinnati Bengals, but he also led the league in passing yards on the week. Shoutout to the Jets fan in attendance who actually threw money down on White to do just that at 100-1 odds! It was truly a fairy tale first start for the 26-year-old. While he did throw two interceptions, he more than overcame them by passing for 405 yards and three scores. White even caught the two-point conversion following what proved to be the winning score for New York.
Whether or not the Jets can replicate Sunday’s success on the road with a short week of preparation remains to be seen. The running back tandem of Michael Carter and Ty Johnson has been heavily featured in the offensive game plan for New York each of the last two weeks. The two combined for over 90 yards rushing and also pulled in 14 combined catches for over 160 yards against Cincinnati. Each found the end zone once. Their pass-catching abilities will be needed if they are to be effective against a sturdy Colts’ defensive front. Speaking of defense, a steady pass rush has been key for the Jets in both of their victories. With both C.J. Mosley and Marcus Maye back healthy, perhaps New York can dial some things up again on Thursday night.
Indianapolis Colts Preview
The Colts suffered a crushing overtime loss to the AFC South Division rival Tennessee Titans last Sunday. As a result, a three-game deficit in the division standings is actually four since the Titans swept both head-to-head meetings between the teams. Carson Wentz made some very costly mistakes in a big spot yet again. The Colts lost the turnover battle on Sunday 3-2 and would have won the game if not for a Wentz interception down in the red zone. It certainly didn’t help that wideout T.Y. Hilton exited Sunday’s game with yet another injury. Given the fragility of neck injuries, Indianapolis might very well be without Hilton for the foreseeable future.
With Hilton going down, the Colts had to finish out their Week 8 NFL betting matchup with just four healthy wide receivers. Michael Pittman stepped up huge with 10 receptions for 86 yards and two scores. Expect Zach Pascal, tight end Mo Alie-Cox and running back Nyheim Hines to assume larger roles in the passing game for the Colts on Thursday night. Of course, Indianapolis would prefer to grind things out on the ground with Jonathan Taylor if possible. Defensively, Indy ranks first in the league in adjusted efficiency against the run. Given that the Colts should have a decisive advantage at the line of scrimmage when on defense, containing the Jets’ backfield duo in the passing game will be critical.
