Carolina Panthers Preview
Several NFL betting analysts were high on the Panthers to go over their season win total back before the season began. Through three weeks, Carolina is nearly halfway there thanks to a perfect start. While the competition has been mediocre at best, it’s impossible to deny that Matt Rhule has the Panthers trending in the right direction. New quarterback Sam Darnold was sharp last week against the Houston Texans. He threw for over 300 yards and also scored a pair of rushing touchdowns. It was a big game for veteran wideout D.J. Moore. Meanwhile, rookie Terrace Marshall Jr. has also gotten his NFL career off to a strong start.
While the Panthers’ offense has been steady through the first three weeks, the defense has been absolutely outstanding. Entering this Week 4 NFL betting showdown, Carolina has the top adjusted defense against both the run and pass, per Football Outsiders. In doing so, Dallas took over sole possession of first place in the NFL’s weakest division. Following back-to-back impressive wins, the Cowboys enter this matchup as NFL betting favorites. After his gruesome season-ending injury from a year ago, Dak Prescott has been phenomenal through the first three weeks. He dialed up another three TD passes in last week’s win, two of which went to tight end Dalton Schultz. Running back Ezekiel Elliott also scored a pair of rushing touchdowns while rotation back Tony Pollard continues to impress.
After getting lit up by Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on opening night, the Cowboys’ defense has actually been solid in each of the last two weeks. They came up with two more turnovers in the win over the Eagles. Dallas leads the league after three weeks with eight takeaways and is tied for first in turnover margin on the season at +5. So far, they have been able to overcome the loss of pass-rusher DeMarcus Lawrence. The Cowboys’ secondary also appears to be much-improved from a year ago.
