The last time the United States Men’s National Team squared off with Mexico in a competitive match was all the way back in 2019. That day, El Tri defeated the United States 1-0 in the 2019 Gold Cup Final at Soldier Field in Chicago. However, the last time they played them at any level, the USMNT (United States Men’s National Team) got out-classed by Mexico in a friendly in 2019, 3-0. That match took place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. After two years of seeing their young stars shine in Europe, there will be another USA vs Mexico matchup, and this time it’s in the ONCACAF Nations League Final.

This CONCACAF Nations League Final betting preview will will discuss the USA vs Mexico match, how to watch it and give an official prediction.

The United States beat Honduras in the semi-final on Friday, 1-0. The squad had good performances from Giovanni Reyna, Pulisic, Sergino Dest and Weston McKennie. However, they needed a late goal from super-sub Jordan Siebatcheu to beat the Hondurans. While Reyna and the other youngsters showed promise, the rest of the team were less impressive. However, the USMNT got some good news this morning as it appears that Tyler Adams will be fully healthy and ready to go. That’s a huge plus for the United States, as Adams controls the midfield and the flow of the game goes through him. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen, who is a reserve for English Champions Manchester City, barely had to move in the semi-final, but that will be much different tonight. The defensive pair of John Brooks and Mark McKenzie have been good, not great. Look for the United States to have possession of the ball more than in usual matches versus Mexico.

El Tri struggled in their semi-final versus Costa Rica. After 120 minutes of play, the game was still deadlocked at 0-0. It went to penalties, where Guillermo Ochoa, the savior of the Mexican National Team in the 2014 World Cup, stopped the last shot from the spot to give El Tri the win. However, even though they got the win, they were not impressive. Jonathan Dos Santos, the Mexican’s vital midfield player, pulled out of the Nation’s League after suffering a hamstring injury. Without Dos Santos, the controls of the midfield were handed 34-year old skipper, Andres Guardado. Guardado was often caught out of position, which opened up counter-attacks for the Costa Ricans. In the end, El Tri got the win, but fans of the Mexican National Team might be a little bit worried.

USA vs Mexico Prediction, Betting Odds and Trends

    Spread: USMNT 0.0 (+105) | Mexico 0.0 (-125)
    Moneyline: USMNT (+175) | Mexico (+140)
    Total: 2.0 Over (-145) | Under (+120)

For the United States, this really is a pivotal game. The entire USMNT organization has been trying to prove their credibility since missing the 2018 World Cup. With the young stars such as Pulisic, McKennie, and Dest, their is belief that this is the best United States team in recent memory. All that’s left to see now, is can they win the big games. On the other side of the touch-line, without Dos Santos it could be a tough road for El Tri. However, Hector Lozano, who had a brilliant domestic season for Napoli in Italy, is a force up front. If Brooks and McKenzie can contain him, the United States should pull out the win.

In the end, McKennie finds Reyna for a goal late in the first half, and the USMNT control possession in the second half to finish out the match. Go Go USA, 1-0.
