The University of Alabama and premier football talents go together as well as milk and cookies. Once again, one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL Draft hails from Alabama, and his name is Patrick Surtain II. The junior out of Plantation, Florida is entering the draft early and has been a starter for stacked Alabama defenses for the past two seasons. Virtually every NFL analyst has Surtain at the top of the boards, and for good reason.

Patrick Surtain Draft Profile
Strengths
One of the biggest strengths of Surtain is his ability to read the quarterback’s eyes. It allows him to get a great jump on passes and leads to plenty of pass breakups. He does a good job of also reading the eyes of the receiver, which allows him to turn around to make a play on the ball at the right time. Surtain II is a fantastic open field tackler who is very good at wrapping up the ball carrier. He can recognize receiver routes and is able to do his job in zone coverage as well. He has elite physical abilities and has also played against the best competition in the country in the SEC.
Weaknesses
There aren’t many weaknesses for Surtain, but there are certainly a few. At times, he seems to make the wrong decision when it comes to defending passes. He often goes for the simple pass breakup when he should go for the pick, and can sometimes be caught going for an interception when he should be simply knocking the ball down. Surtain can get handsy at times. Although it hasn’t led to as many penalties as other corners in college, the NFL would likely be cracking down on him more.
