American Football Betting Tips

For anyone who enjoys sports betting, American football is one of the most exciting targets there is. Most British gamblers don’t know very much about American football, but it is easy enough to pick up and well worth it for anyone looking for something new to bet on.

American Football Odds

There are three formats that American football odds will be presented to bettors in – decimal odds, fractional odds, or moneyline odds. Of all of these, decimal odds are the easiest ones to work with once you understand how each of the different types of probability should be interpreted. Once you know how to read these odds, you can begin to properly assess the value and risk of any given bet.

Bet Types

There are a variety of things that you can bet on in an American football game. Both online and offline bookmakers now offer an in-depth array of options for betting on games. You can choose anything from the outcome of the game to the identity of the first to score or even the time before the first touchdown is scored. However, while you have lots of options, there are certain types of bets that have proven to be way more popular than the others.

The most popular way of betting on American football, and also the most traditional, is known as the point spread bet. The point spread is sometimes known as betting lines or handicaps and is a bet on the final margin of a game. Bookmakers will treat these bets as a 50/50 bet, meaning that there is a 50% chance of the result being on either side of the margin. Because of this, it is up to the player to choose which side of the margin they think they will end up on.

Moneylines

Moneylines are another relatively simple way of betting on American football games. A moneyline bet is simply a bet on who you think is going to win the game in the end. You don’t need to specify how much they will win by or anything else about the game, only who the winner will be. There are ways of combining a Moneyline bet with a point spread bet in order to increase your chances of making your money back. By picking the right combination of outcomes, you can ensure that even if your Moneyline bet fails, you can make your money back by picking a good point spread.

Winning Bets

Before you begin betting on American football games, there are a couple of ways in which you need to prepare yourself. For one thing, you will need a betting platform that you can trust, such as Bet 365. You can even take advantage of a Bet 365 Free Bet if you would like to try the platform out before you commit to it – Freebet Up lists all the latest offers on betting sites, including bonus codes and no deposit offers.

You need to make sure that you fully understand how American football works before you can seriously think about betting on it. Betting on a sport that you don’t really understand is just asking for trouble and will mean that you need to spend time learning the sport rather than refining your betting strategy.
