With the start of the NFL regular season now less than two weeks away, there is no better time to cast some season-long win totals bets. Through early performances, news and matchups research, I have zeroed in on some lines of interest. Here are the four best NFL win totals to bet the over on.
These odds were pulled from MyBookie. Odds and totals can move frequently, so now is the time to get them in if you have a good one.
New York Giants: OVER 6 Wins (+115)
Most of the offseason headlines surrounding the New York Giants have detailed how they will be the dumpster fire of the NFL in 2019. And no, they were not a good football team last year. But with all things considered, they hung in many games thanks to a vastly underrated defense. The defense will be good again and the offense has playmakers in Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram and (eventually) Golden Tate. The question is, will the team get adequate quarterback play, either from veteran Eli Manning or rookie sixth overall pick Daniel Jones? Big investments into the offensive line should help whichever quarterback happens to be under center on a given week.
Based on my numbers, the Giants project to be closer to eight wins, a full two clear of the six-win totals line. From a schedule standpoint, the NFC East should be a pretty tight division, giving the Giants opportunities in those six games. A crossover against the AFC East means matchups with the Dolphins, Jets and Bills, and the Cardinals are also on the slate. Am I saying the Giants will be a contender in 2019? No. But are they capable of going over or at least pushing a six-win total bet. Absolutely.

Detroit Lions: OVER 6.5 Wins (-150)
This total feels a bit low for a Lions team that should be improved in every facet of the game, entering the second year of Matt Patricia’s head coaching tenure. The passing game will remain explosive and voluminous with quarterback Matthew Stafford having an array of weapons that includes wideouts Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones Jr., with a pair of newcomers at tight end in veteran Jesse James and promising rookie T.J. Hockenson. The latter’s blocking skills should also help the offensive line stabilize pass protection and open some holes for second-year back Kerryon Johnson. The defense has quietly gotten scarier as well, led by Trey Flowers, Jarrad Davis and Damon Harrison. Playing in the NFC North never makes for an easy schedule, but the Lions will have several winnable games in their matchups against the NFC East and AFC West teams. Drawing the Cardinals in Week 1 gives Detroit a great chance to start 2019 off on a winning note.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: OVER 6.5 Wins (-130)
The defense remains lackluster and it is the first season under new coach Bruce Arians, but there is just too much raw talent on the Buccaneers roster to not consider betting them over 6.5 wins. The potential of quarterback Jameis Winston might finally be realized with the coaching upgrade to Arians. He lacks no shortage of playmaking targets, in Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and tight end O.J. Howard. Tampa Bay is hoping that the new system of coordinator Byron Leftwich will boost offensive line play, particularly in the run game. If the line does improve, this offense could be one of the more potent in the NFL. The NFC South figures to be good again this year, but the Bucs should be able to compete. Add in the crossover games against the AFC South and opportunities against the Giants and Cardinals, and seven wins seems realistic.
San Francisco 49ers: OVER 8 Wins (-130)
Every NFL team deals with injuries, but no team got hit harder last season than the San Francisco 49ers. Running back Jerick McKinnon was lost for the year before the season even began, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo went down to a torn ACL in Week 3. McKinnon has continued to deal with setbacks throughout training camp, making the addition of Tevin Coleman all the more important. If Garoppolo can stay healthy, he has some established pass catchers to work with in star tight end George Kittle and wideouts Marquise Goodwin and Dante Pettis. Rookies Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd will be names to watch as well. On defense, a talented front seven will look to wreak havoc on opposing offensive lines. Before the injuries last year, this was a team that many were touting to be a legitimate NFC contender. Expect the 49ers to compete within the NFC West, and the AFC North crossover presents some winnable games as well.
