After two weeks of NFL football full of bad penalties, terrible kickers and some surprising players, we are now headed into week 3. These are the biggest surprises thus far.
Ryan Fitzpatrick (FitzMagic)
Through a up and down career, the journeyman Fitzpatrick has played for seven NFL teams while appearing in 135 games. At times, Fitzpatrick has been a proven winner and gunslinger. At other times, he has looked like a sloppy turnover machine who, at best, is a backup/Mentor. Fitzpatrick has now stepped in after the Jameis Winston suspension and led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 2-0 start against the New Orleans Saints and the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. After leading the league with 819 passing yards and 8 touchdowns through two weeks, how long will the FitzMagic last?
Blake Bortles
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wipe off your glasses or eyeballs if you must, but that says Blake Bortles. After a not so great game in the season opener versus the New York Giants, where Blake only threw for 176 yards, 1 touchdown and an interception, Bortles then came out in week 2 against the kings of the AFC and made HUGE plays, both in the passing and running game, putting up 377 passing yards, 4 touchdowns and 35 rushing yards, with just one interception. Jacksonville’s defense is already elite, but if Blake Bortles can keep this play up, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be the favorites in the AFC.
Phillip Lindsay
From undrafted to breaking NFL records, Phillip Lindsay went from worrying about being cut in training camp to being the first undrafted free agent in NFL history with 100+ scrimmage yards in each of his first two games. The former Colorado Buffalo is a great player and story to follow this NFL season. Could he help his hometown Denver Broncos get back into the playoffs? Only time will tell.
