Week 8 fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em TE picks from FlurrySports include the Washington Commanders’ Chig Okonkwo.

The tight end position is a tough one in Week 8. There are a couple of players at the position who have been must-start players, but they will face must-sit matchups. In many cases, you probably can find someone to play over them who would be better. However, you should not sacrifice your future roster build for one week, unless you absolutely have to.
As you can tell, there are some very tough fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em decisions in Week 8, and I am here to help!
Look, I am not here to tell you that Trey McBride or Brock Bowers are worthy of starts. Hell, we’ll leave that type of analysis to the Fantasy Football Counselor or some other hack. Instead, we will look at the players who potentially may or may not be a TE1, depending on their weekly matchup.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also access the FlurrySports Playbook here for all of the matchup-winning data your league doesn’t want you to have! There’s no doubt it will help with your fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions.

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 8 TEs
Start: Chig Okonkwo Fantasy Outlook vs Eagles
Chig Okonkwo is in line for a large role in Week 8 and the rest of the NFL season. Terry McLaurin suffered a season-ending injury in Washington’s last game. Okonkwo managed to catch seven passes for 69 yards during that matchup. In Weeks 5 and 6, the Washington tight end played over 70% of the snaps in both games and saw a 22.4% target share. This is no fluke.
Jayden Daniels has really leaned on the tight end position early in his career. Prior to this season, about 22% of his passes went to the TE position. That was once the reliable veteran Zach Ertz. Across his two seasons in Washington, 75% of Ertz’s receptions went for either a first down or a touchdown. This offseason, Washington signed Chig Okonkwo to fill this role. And given the injury to McLaurin, he will be relied on even more now.
Okonkwo is a triumphant “start” in my Week 8 Fantasy Football Start ‘em, Sit ‘em, and he may be someone you can start for the rest of the season.
Start: TJ Hockenson Fantasy Outlook at Lions
Fire up the alarm, because this is a revenge game for TJ Hockenson! You can track this on our weekly Revenge Game tool.
It has been an up-and-down start to the season for Hockenson, but he has performed well when Kyler Murray is at quarterback. In the two full games they played each other, Hockenson had that 13-catch, 119-yard outburst against Miami, then he totaled four catches for 35 yards last week. Now, he has the motivation of facing his former team, and they happen to be a solid matchup.
The Lions allow the most fantasy points to TEs by a long shot (29.4). Yes, the return of Brian Branch last week should help improve their coverage, but Branch is playing a bit more traditional deep safety with Kerby Joseph still out. Once Joseph returns, we will see Branch play in the box more, but for now, Detroit is still a team that opposing tight ends could find success against.
Sit: Mark Andrews Fantasy Outlook at Bills
This is the second straight week that I am featuring Mark Andrews on the “sit” side of the Fantasy Football Start ‘em, Sit ‘em. What he does have going for him is that Lamar Jackson is expected to play this week. There is no doubt that Jackson and Andrews have a connection that has been built over several seasons. My argument to this is that Andrews has scored double-digit fantasy points in PPR scoring just twice, and he needed a touchdown to get there in one of the games.
Andrews has been nothing more than a check-down option this season. So, while he has totaled six-plus targets in four games, he hasn’t reached 30 receiving yards since Week 2. Mark Andrews should not sniff your starting lineup, and he likely should be cut from your fantasy team.

Sit: Jake Ferguson Fantasy Outlook vs Cardinals
Jake Ferguson has a staple in the Fantasy Football Start ‘em, Sit ‘em to begin the season. I was right, and it is the same reason he is a sit here.
Simply, the Cowboys do not use Ferguson outside of the red zone. So, his catch total is low, and his yardage potential is low. He needs to score a touchdown to return any value, and he hasn’t found Pay Dirt since Week 3. That was also the last time he had over 20 yards.
The matchup this week against the Cardinals isn’t bad, but nothing changes for Ferguson. Dallas uses multiple tight ends in the middle of the field. If he doesn’t score a touchdown, he will be a bust. I was surprised to see the number of teams still starting him, so consider this your wake-up call if you are in that percentage.
