Week 3 of the NFL season is here, which means we know just a little bit more of what is going on around the league. When it comes to the tight end position, things can get murky if you are not a Trey McBride owner. How do you know who to start and when to start them? Well, given what we have seen from the tight end position over the first two weeks, there are several ways we can go with our Week 3 fantasy football TE streamers.

Oronde Gadsden, Chargers at BUF (1.5% owned)
After being written off coming into fantasy drafts, it appears that Oronde Gadsden is pushed back into our lives for the better. Over two weeks, Gadsden has totaled 50 yards and a touchdown. While those numbers seem minuscule, his path towards being a featured pass catcher in the Chargers offense is becoming clearer. Both Charlie Kolar and David Njoku recently went on IR, meaning that Gadsden is thrust into the starting lineup.
This works well for fantasy managers looking for an edge on the waiver wire this week, as the Chargers take on the Buffalo Bills. While the Bills have been one of the better teams in the NFL through the first two weeks of the season, one thing that they have struggled against is defending opposing tight ends. Through two weeks, the Bills have given up 116 yards and a touchdown. With the lack of quality play from the receiving corps, outside of Ladd McConkey, Gadsden will be put into a featured receiving role against the Bills this week.
Terrance Ferguson, Rams vs DEN (18.9% owned)
With Puka Nacua’s hip/groin injury keeping him out of the Rams Week 2 matchup against the Giants, Terrance Ferguson was slotted up in the pecking order and looked like the Rams’ number two receiving option behind Davante Adams. While Nacua’s status for Week 3 is still up in the air, Ferguson’s status is a full go. In a tight end room full of mystery, the Oregon alum obviously has the biggest receiving upside, as his after-the-catch ability is the best in that room, proven by his six-catch, 54-yard, and a touchdown performance.
While the matchup against Denver seems scary at first, breaking it down gives a little bit more credence to Ferguson having another big week. If Nacua plays, he will see Pat Surtain coverage, which means that Matt Stafford has to work the ball over the middle of the field more often than not, which plays right into Ferguson’s hands. If Nacua is not playing, then Adams probably sees that Surtain coverage, meaning that Ferguson will once again slide into that number-two receiving role.
Dalton Schultz, Texans at IND (21.5% owned)
The story of the Houston Texans coming into the season was how well their defense would play, but through two weeks of the NFL season, it appears their offense is leading the charge. Much of that offense has come on the back of CJ Stroud, as he leads the NFL in passing attempts this season, with 93. The good news of that for Dalton Schultz is that without Nico Collins, those pass attempts need to go to someone else. That someone else, of course, is Schultz. Last week, Schultz finished the game with 12 receptions on 14 targets for 140 yards.
This week, the Texans have a chance to get back on track here, going up against a Colts defense that has been gashed in back-to-back weeks by the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs. On the season, the Colts have given up 21 total fantasy points to opposing tight ends. We saw Travis Kelce turn back the clock to 2018 last week against this defense, and while Schultz is not as talented as Kelce, the lack of a true number one option in the Texans offense props him that much more.
