The first week of the NFL season treated most of the top-tier running backs very well, with the top performances coming from Derrick Henry, Ken Walker, Jahmyr Gibbs and Ashton Jeanty. So, you are probably feeling pretty good about the first running back you drafted. However, there is quite the drop-off, and that RB2 or Flex spot could have you a bit worried.
We have highlighted all of the top fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 2, but that’s not necessarily the list of the best players to add and start this weekend. If you are in a pickle and are looking for Week 2 fantasy football RB streamers to start, you have come to the right place. Let’s throw long-term thinking out of the window and instead focus on the matchup staring you in the face.
I have picked three fantasy football streaming candidates at the running back position. I’m calling the final one a deep sleeper, for those in deep leagues who are desperate.

Kaelon Black, 49ers vs MIA (15.3%)
Don’t look now, but there are multiple relevant running backs in San Francisco. Not only did rookie Kaelon Black get the opportunity to show his skills, but he looked really good. Black totaled 69 yards on 15 touches. He also played 43% of the offensive snaps, per the FlurrySports Playbook.
You may be thinking that Black simply ate up the garbage time work. That’s not true. In fact, Black saw five snaps and two touches on the 49ers’ first drive (our Paydirt tool). San Francisco loves this kid, and he is part of their game plan.
What makes Kaelon Black such a good fantasy football RB streamer is the matchup. The 49ers will get to play a Miami Dolphins team that looked pretty terrible in Week 1. The assumption is that San Francisco will handle business easily at home. Assuming this is the case, we should see Black get plenty of second-half work. He’s a better play in Standard scoring or Half PPR, but regardless, the rookie has a chance to be a Flex or risky RB2 play this week. You can’t ask for much more when streaming running backs.
Tyler Allgeier, Cardinals vs SEA (41.7%)
I fully understand not getting excited about Tyler Allgeier. It also makes sense to be afraid of a matchup against a well-rested Seattle Seahawks defense. However, we are looking for Week 2 fantasy football RB streamers, and it’s tough to turn down the workload that Allgeier will get.
It’s rare to find an RB on the waiver wire who totaled 19 touches and 59% of the offensive snaps. However, that’s exactly what we get with Allgeier. Additionally, per our Paydirt tool in the Playbook, we see that Allgeier received four red zone touches last week, giving him high touchdown upside if the Cardinals find their way to the red zone. This isn’t surprising, considering Allgeier’s success running in touchdowns as a Falcon.
There is no doubt that this is a bad matchup, which severely limits his ceiling. However, when scouting fantasy football running back streamers, we are simply looking for opportunity. Allgeier will have plenty of that all season long.
Devin Singletary, Giants at LAR (0.3%)
On Sunday Night Football, Cam Skattebo unsurprisingly served as the New York Giants’ RB1; Najee Harris was a healthy scratch, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. fumbled on his second snap and never saw the field again. So, it was Devin Singletary who served as the change-of-pace, and he played well. Singletary totaled six carries, four receptions, 38 total yards and a touchdown.
It would not be surprising to see Harris elevated next week in favor of Tracy, but Singletary’s role as a receiver out of the backfield should be pretty safe. And in a matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, where the Giants are expected to be playing from behind, Singletary could see an increased number of snaps and targets.
