The IndyCar Series makes its way to the St. Louis metro area this weekend for one of the most underrated events on the calendar. World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, hosts the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 on Sunday night — a race that has consistently delivered compelling action on one of the more unique oval layouts in open-wheel racing.
The egg-shaped, asymmetrical configuration at WWTR produces a style of racing that sets it apart from the standard ovals on the IndyCar schedule. Of course, the late-night primetime window under the lights only adds to the atmosphere. It extends an exciting weekend for racing fans with NASCAR in action at Michigan earlier in the day.
Below, we break down everything you need to know for one of the most popular IndyCar Series events of the year. We will then dig into the IndyCar betting odds and share our picks to win the Bommarito Automotive Group 500.

Bommarito Automotive Group 500 IndyCar Betting Odds to Win
World Wide Technology Raceway has practically been a personal playground for Josef Newgarden since the IndyCar Series returned to the venue. The most successful oval driver in the sport today has won this race outright three times in the last five years and has five total victories here since 2017.
Despite his overwhelming success, Newgarden was not able to maintain his opening lines status as the IndyCar betting favorite this weekend. Instead, his Team Penske running mate David Malukas has been bet into the status of being the favorite to win on Sunday night. Malukas is still seeking his first ever IndyCar race win after being edged at the line in the Indy 500 two weeks ago.
Defending series champion Alex Palou is the third driver positioned just behind the Penske teammates at the top of the odds board. While the Chip Ganassi Racing driver is a threat to win any race, he has notably done most of his damage on the road and street courses as far as outright victories.
Rounding out the drivers priced shorter than 10-1 are Pato O’Ward and Scott McLaughlin. Meanwhile, 2026 Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist sits at 30-1 odds to win this week.

IndyCar Betting Picks and Predictions: Who Will Win the Bommarito Automotive Group 500?
Favorite: Josef Newgarden (+325)
Josef Newgarden may not be the IndyCar betting favorite heading into the weekend, but he is easily the top choice when backing a frontrunner. Since IndyCar returned to World Wide Technology Raceway in 2017, Newgarden has won five of the ten total races contested at the venue. He is widely considered the best oval racer in the series and has won at least one oval race every single year since 2016 — a streak he extended earlier this season with a victory at Phoenix.
Last year at Gateway, Newgarden was out front before a scary crash sent his car airborne and ended his night prematurely. Had that not happened, a third consecutive WWTR victory was well within reach. Two weeks ago at the Indy 500 he was charging hard through the field before clipping the inside curb and crashing out.
The bad luck has been piling up, but the speed has never been in question. At +325 with five wins at this specific track, Newgarden is the clear favorite pick.
Value Pick: Christian Rasmussen (+1000)
Anytime there’s an oval race, Christian Rasmussen warrants serious IndyCar betting consideration. The Ed Carpenter Racing driver has been bitten by bad luck in each of the first two oval events this season. At Phoenix he wowed spectators with a charge through traffic and led 69 laps — second-most of any driver — before late contact relegated him to a mid-teens finish. At the Indy 500 he showed similar speed until a mechanical failure ended his day early.
Now he arrives at a track where he finished third last year after starting 25th on the grid — a drive that showcased exactly the kind of race craft that makes him dangerous on ovals. He has already proven capable of winning at this level with a victory at the Milwaukee Mile last fall. At 10-1, the price is right for a driver whose results have consistently undersold his actual performance.
Long Shot Hopeful: Marcus Armstrong (+4000)
Meyer Shank Racing made headlines at the Indy 500 with Felix Rosenqvist’s victory, but Marcus Armstrong’s performance deserves its own mention. Armstrong was running side-by-side with his teammate for second heading into Turn 4 on the final lap before ultimately crossing the line fifth. That result was no fluke — he also finished fifth at Phoenix earlier this season.
Dig into his Gateway history and the case gets more interesting. Armstrong has quietly finished inside the top 10 in each of the last two editions of the Bommarito 500, suggesting the car and the driver both have an affinity for this track. At 40-1, a little more fortune on Sunday night could put him in genuine contention for the win. For IndyCar betting long shot hunters, MSR’s momentum coming out of Indianapolis makes Armstrong a worthwhile dart throw.
