It’s very common for soccer fans to look at a grouping like Group H and just pencil in Spain and Uruguay into the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Saudi Arabia and Cabo Verde may rank 61st and 69th, respectively, in the FIFA Men’s Rankings, but that didn’t stop Saudi Arabia from pulling off the upset of the tournament in 2022 when they defeated eventual champions Argentina, 2-1, in their very first game.
With Uruguay failing to reach the knockout stages in the 2022 World Cup and Spain yet to reach the quarterfinals since their 2010 World Cup win, both teams will have immense pressure to perform, which will certainly make things interesting.

Prediction
Thanks to Luis Suarez feuding with the coach of the Uruguayan National Team, he will not be making his fifth World Cup appearance, and thus, Uruguay can finally be a team fans can root for again. From biting to blatant handballs to just being an overall bad person, it’ll be refreshing to see Uruguay in the World Cup without all the drama surrounding them. Nevertheless, Uruguay and Spain should be able to waltz to the knockout stages if they so choose.
Spain is one of the best teams in the world, behind superstar forward Lamine Yamal, and having one of the best midfielders in the world in Rodri doesn’t hurt either. Spain is lethal in their attack and has a brick wall of a defense as well. As one of the few teams that truly has no weakness, there is a really good chance Spain wins all three group games. It would take a heck of a collapse for them not to finish top in this group. The only true question Group H poses is whether or not Saudi Arabia can pull off a miraculous upset again.
In the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the world was treated to Saudi Arabia’s shock 2-1 upset over eventual champion Argentina. Uruguay is not anywhere near the level of 2022 Argentina, but it’ll still be a steep mountain to climb. Teams are ready for Saudi Arabia now, and they won’t catch anyone by surprise. While Uruguay may not be the most convincing, they should be able to take care of business on the way to finishing second in their group. If Saudi Arabia can get a point off of Uruguay or Spain, they have a great chance to qualify as one of the better third-place teams.
There is no animosity here towards the country known as Cape or Cabo Verde, depending on where you are, but this is their first World Cup, and they really only qualified due to 48 teams qualifying this year as opposed to the previous 32. With all due respect, their all-time leading goal scorer has just 22 goals in international play, with just three having scored 10 or more goals in international play.
