Group B will not be the premier group that people watch during the opening stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but that doesn’t mean it won’t have its own excitement. Host country Canada will certainly be buoyed by three home games as they look to make it into the knockout stages for the first time in their country’s history, falling short in their previous three attempts.
To make it, Canada will have to pass through a group that sees Switzerland as the favorite, with Qatar and Bosnia-Herzegovina having the ability to pull an upset or two and make a Cinderella run if they are not careful. No matter how it plays out, this group will be one of the more entertaining watches for the die-hard soccer fans.

World Cup Group B Predictions
This may be one of the weakest groups in recent World Cup history. Switzerland is the favorite in this group, and at face value, it would appear that Canada is the clear choice to take second. Unfortunately, defender Alphonso Davies is again dealing with an injury (a muscle tear in his hamstring), and his status is truly up in the air. If he does play, Davies and Canada would be taking a huge risk seeing him return to play right after being cleared to return, assuming he’s cleared a week or so before the tournament kicks off.
Even if Davies does play, Canada could struggle against the other teams in the group. While they will have the home crowd against them, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Qatar aren’t exactly slouches like their ratings seem to say they are. While he is well past his prime, Edin Dzeko still has the technical skills that saw him be a key contributor to clubs like Manchester City, Inter Milan and AS Roma, amongst others. In just six starts in the German second division, he has six goals and three assists across just six starts. Many are likely to write off Qatar as well, but they have one of the more experienced rosters in this entire tournament. Seven Qatari players have over 100 appearances for their country in international competitions, and that experience is crucial in the World Cup.
Switzerland will probably win at least two games, if not all three, and secure the top spot in this group. It’s truly a toss-up after that, but I believe that the home crowd and Jonathan David’s ability to score goals seemingly at will when he’s on will be just enough to take them over the top and finish second. Bosnia-Herzegovina will likely finish third with Qatar in last, but make no mistake, this group will absolutely come down to the final games, and likely, the last twenty minutes of those games.
