Emmanuel McNeil-Warren Scouting Report
Strengths
The biggest plus for Emmanuel McNeil-Warren is his size. He’s a long, rangy player who can use his size to make it difficult for ball carriers to get around. He also does a fantastic job at punching balls out and causing plenty of fumbles. McNeil-Warren also brings good anticipation on routes and can break on them at the right time with ease. When he does meet the receiver at the ball, he can deliver quite the punch with his size and weight.
In run defense, while he’s certainly not perfect, he does a good job of getting off blocks and being a pest for anyone trying to block him.
Weaknesses
While Emmanuel McNeil-Warren is certainly talented, he is not able to play multiple positions on the defense like some other safeties in this draft class can. He lacks the speed necessary to be deployed in man coverage on deep routes and will likely have to be used as more of a run stopper and hard hitter over the middle than a deep, ranging safety. There is no question that he lacks the ability to keep up with burners or even slightly faster receivers on deep routes. He can sometimes miss in the open field due to having anxious feet, and can sometimes come down to stop the run too hard, putting himself out of position.
