When is the 2026 NFL Draft?
The 2026 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 23, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The draft will take place in Pittsburgh, PA. It is a football city that will provide a great backdrop for the draft festivities, but everyone is crossing their fingers that the weather cooperates. Only Round 1 will take place on Thursday. Rounds 2-3 will take place on April 24th, with the remaining four rounds wrapping up on Sunday, April 25th. There will be 257 players selected across the seven rounds, with many more getting phone calls immediately afterward.
Francis Mauigoa Scouting Report
Strengths
Francis Mauigoa has the footwork of a tackle and the build of a guard, so he has a bit of flexibility on where he lines up. But while his college experience is at tackle, his more natural position in the NFL could learn guard, given his broad frame and physical tools.
Mauigoa has tremendous first pop, moving bodies at the point of attack. After that pop, he keeps his feet churning to generate more movement, which is something many linemen lack nowadays. Through his hand placement, hip torque, and fundamentals to finish, Mauigoa has the tools to be a road grader upfront.
But while the skills above describe the best of what teams look for in a guard, Mauigoa plays with great balance and control. His slides are calculated, and he plays with patient hands in protection. While he could get beat by the elite length of some edge rushers, his footwork and skills mean he can match up with most on the edge, and he digs in to take on bullrush moves as well.
Weaknesses
As mentioned above, Mauigoa doesn’t have as much length and range as would be ideal at starting tackle. And as I always discuss, this lack of length always becomes more and more apparent as the player ages.
The rest of Francis Mauigoa’s weaknesses are all coachable. He gets caught leaning too much when engaged with defenders, and he showed a tendency to struggle on the edge with spin moves.
