When is the 2026 NFL Draft?
The 2026 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 23, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The draft will take place in Pittsburgh, PA. It is a football city that will provide a great backdrop for the draft festivities, but everyone is crossing their fingers that the weather cooperates. Only Round 1 will take place on Thursday. Rounds 2-3 will take place on April 24th, with the remaining four rounds wrapping up on Sunday, April 25th. There will be 257 players selected across the seven rounds, with many more getting phone calls immediately afterward.
Spencer Fano Scouting Report
Strengths
Spencer Fano has experience playing both tackle spots in college. As discussed above, teams rarely feel good about both tackle positions in the current-day NFL, so having that flexibility to play either will bump up his draft stock. He also has a ton of experience in run-heavy schemes. As you may have seen, the NFL has been evolving back to running the ball more, and teams are adapting.
Fano’s hands are up there for the best in his class. His hands are quick and precise. He even throws feints to draw a defender out of position, similar to how an MMA fighter does. Along with his striking, his footwork is under control and has shown great skills to mirror, suggesting he can thrive in pass protection as well.
He’s a smaller tackle, which we’ll discuss in a second. However, he has used this to his advantage, and his athleticism and movement are both strengths in his game in both run and pass blocking. This could lead to early success, but it may mean long-term success is more difficult.
Weaknesses
As we just said, Spence Fano is a smaller tackle. There is also a lack of strength, and he lacks length a bit as well. He’s pretty lean. As a result, a move inside actually would not improve his effectiveness. He will just have to work on putting on some muscle.
Fano also must do all of the little things right in order to compensate for his lack of strength. He gets too high when engaged in the running game. Fano also opens up outside on his slide a bit too quickly, but that is something that can be coached in his rookie year.
