Mansoor Delane Scouting Report
Strengths
Mansoor Delane is one of the more complete cornerbacks in recent history. He has incredible speed breaking on routes and has great anticipation as well. He does a great job of reading the quarterback and does it in a way that keeps him from losing his man at the same time. When he does break on routes or comes down to make a play on the ball carrier, he does so with force and is not afraid to deliver some big-time hits. He’s incredibly quick and athletic, and he smothers receivers the moment the ball comes anywhere near them.
Most impressive about Delane is his improvement since entering college. As a three-star recruit, Delane quickly established himself, winning honorable mention All-ACC in his freshman year at Virginia Tech, Third-team All-ACC in his junior year, and First-team All-SEC and a unanimous All-American in his senior season at LSU. With this amount of improvement in just a few years, the sky is the limit for Delane.
Weaknesses
One of the biggest weaknesses for Mansoor Delane is that he often gets very handsy during coverage. At the NFL level, that will certainly bring about plenty of penalties. With that in mind, almost all prospects struggle with that at the college level and have that as a “knock” coming into the league. If there is another weakness, it would be that he needs to be better locating deep balls in coverage. He could do a better job tracking them down and making plays on the ball.
To be completely honest, Delane is the most complete corner in this draft class, in my opinion, and he doesn’t have any real “red flags” coming into the NFL. Any “weaknesses” he has can easily be worked out before the regular season.
