Mike Washington Jr. Scouting Report

Strengths

Mike Washington Jr. is a strong, physical running back who runs with power and consistently fights through contact. His size and toughness make him difficult for defenders to bring down, particularly in the open field, where he can overpower smaller tacklers. While his stature suggests room for further growth as a physical runner, Washington also brings impressive athleticism that helps make him a well-rounded back.

Washington also shows reliable hands as a receiver out of the backfield. This adds value as a versatile weapon and gives him the potential to create mismatches against linebackers and defensive backs in space.

Weaknesses

While Washington’s frame stands out, his effort and willingness to fully utilize his size both as a runner between the tackles and in pass protection could improve. As is often the case with rookie running backs, being a capable and willing pass protector is crucial to earning consistent playing time. The good news is that Washington has the frame to make the necessary strides in both areas.

Washington could also stand to improve his vision at the next level. Because he lacks elite burst and acceleration, quickly identifying running lanes will be important to maximizing his effectiveness. Ball security is also worth monitoring after he recorded three fumbles this past season.
