FlurrySports lists the top Baltimore Ravens head coach candidates after firing John Harbaugh, including Brian Flores and more.
Tyler Loop’s missed field goal as time expired Sunday night has already claimed its first victim. On Tuesday, the Baltimore Ravens fired John Harbaugh, the long-time head coach with the team. With a talented roster and plenty of bad teams also firing their coaches, there is no arguing that Baltimore is one of the most intriguing and exciting spots for their next head coach to come into.
With so many coaches now available to take over with recent firings and every team racing to hire their new head coach as soon as possible, the Ravens will have to make sure they get their choice right. These are the three most likely Ravens head coach candidates.
Top Baltimore Ravens Head Coach Candidates
Brian Flores | Vikings DC
To put it simply, Brian Flores is one of the greatest defensive minds in football right now and should be right at the top of the list for the Baltimore Ravens. From 2008-18, Brian Flores was a product of Bill Belichick and a big-time part of the New England Patriots dynasty. He also spent two seasons in operations for the Patriots and has four Super Bowl rings to show for it. While his tenure as head coach of the Miami Dolphins didn’t go as planned, it’s important to remember he was ousted due to his refusal to tank for a better draft pick, and for wanting nothing to do with Tua Tagovailoa, two decisions that have aged spectacularly. Even though his tenure with the Dolphins ended unceremoniously, he produced a 24-25 record, including two straight winning seasons in his last two years in a tough AFC East division.
Since his departure from Miami, he has only continued to show his ability as a coach in the NFL. In his one season as the defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, his defense ranked 13th in yards per game and 10th in points per game. Over the past three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings as defensive coordinator, his defenses have ranked 14th, fifth, and seventh in points allowed per game. While he doesn’t have much experience on the offensive side of the ball, the identity of the Ravens and the AFC North is on the defensive side of the ball and no coach out there would bring that identity back as strongly as Brian Flores.
Todd Monken | Ravens OC
Baltimore fans may not love to hear this one, but elevating Todd Monken from offensive coordinator to the next Ravens head coach is certainly on the table. While fans may question his play calling as offensive coordinator, he clearly has the support of the front office as he was extended five years just last year. Monken has plenty of experience at the NFL level as well. His first taste was as a wide receivers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars for a few years, starting way back in 2007. He served as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns as well. Monken also was offensive coordinator at Georgia for three years from 2020-22 and was part of a coaching staff that won two national championships.
What makes this hire most attractive is the continuity it would provide the Ravens. While fans may not see this as much of a reason to hire, the Ravens have been one of the most stable teams in terms of head coaches. Since moving to Baltimore in 1996, the Ravens have had just three head coaches, including Harbaugh. Elevating Monken would be a stable choice that the Ravens organization seems to prefer.

Jeff Hafley | Packers DC
Jeff Hafley has long been looked at for the head coaching job of the New York Giants. Born and raised on the East Coast, it seemed like a natural fit for the Green Bay Packers‘ defensive coordinator, who has hit the ground running in just two years as coordinator at the NFL level. With defense being somewhat of an issue for Baltimore as of late, and the Ravens likely looking to go to the defensive side of the ball for their next head coach, why not go with one of the hottest coordinators in the league? From Hafley’s perspective, why go to a dysfunctional and plain bad Giants team when you can inherit Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, Roquan Smith and Kyle Hamilton?
Not only is Hafley relatively young at 46 years old, but he also has more experience in the NFL than most people realize. Hafley served as an assistant defensive backs coach and then as head defensive backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2012-13. Then he served that same position for the Cleveland Browns from 2014-15 before serving the same role again for the San Francisco 49ers from 2016-18. The Ravens’ defense has been decimated by injuries but also poor play as of late. Seeing his experience as a defensive backs coach, along with his brief but impressive defensive coordinator experience, it’s hard not to believe Hafley could be the leading man for the Ravens head coach job for years to come.
