Underdog Fantasy NFL DFS Picks for Week 18
CJ Stroud HIGHER 213.5 Passing Yards
While the Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of the NFL’s hottest teams to end the season, the Houston Texans still have a chance to win the division in Week 18. That comes down to Houston winning this week against the Colts and Jacksonville losing to the Tennessee Titans. Without a strong run game for Houston, winning this week has to ride on the back of CJ Stroud. The passing line for Stroud is very achievable, as the Colts have given 4,257 passing yards this season. Houston’s defense has been the story of the team’s season, but as of late Stroud and the offense have been moving the ball well.
Stroud has gone higher than 213.5 passing yards in each of his last three games. With Nico Collins, Jayden Higgins and Dalton Schultz all playing their best ball, this passing attack will not have a rough time against a depleted Colts defense. The last time that these two teams played, Stroud finished the game with 276 passing yards. That was when Indianapolis was starting its best 11 on defense. Now with nothing to play for, Stroud has more than a good chance to go higher here.
Justin Jefferson HIGHER 66.5 Receiving Yards
The Minnesota Vikings have had a really weird season. They went from starting the season as being thought of to make a playoff run to being bounced from the playoffs. In between that all was the whole JJ McCarthy saga. McCarthy was not what we thought he was going to be this season, and as a whole, Kevin O’Connell has to be labeled as a disappointment. They can end the season on a high note this week, as they take on division rival Green Bay Packers. With how disappointing it has been for Justin Jefferson this season, ending his season on a high note needs to be at the top of the Vikings’ game plan.
Jefferson comes into Week 18 needing 53 receiving yards to reach 1,000 this season and extend his streak to six seasons. The good news for Jefferson is that the matchup with the Packers has fared well for him. He is averaging 76 yards on five receptions in 10 games against the Packers, which bodes well for his 66.5 receiving yards line. Given how depleted Green Bay is due to injuries, Jefferson will see favorable matchups against Keisean Nixon and Trevon Diggs, who have been very bad in coverage this season. Minnesota has nothing to play for, so to end the season on a feel-good note, it only makes sense that Jefferson is heavily involved.
Trevor Lawrence HIGHER 17.5 Rushing Yards
As I stated before, talking about CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans, Jacksonville can also win the division this week with a win against the Titans. What Jacksonville has going for them is that Trevor Lawrence has been one of, if not the best quarterback down the stretch of the end of the season. At this point, it seems like Lawrence is putting the Jaguars on his back when it comes to moving the ball and winning games. In one of the more underrated rivalries in the NFL, Lawrence will once again be asked to work his magic.
While Lawrence’s arm talent is what made him Jacksonville’s franchise quarterback, Lawrence has shown a penchant for using his legs when needed. Jeffery Simmons has been really good for the Titans this season and will provide Lawrence with enough pressure to make him move out of the pocket a few times in the game. In a game that Jacksonville really wants to win, Lawrence is going to keep the ball in his hands and not be too risky with the ball, giving way for rushing yards. Lawrence has gone over this line in each of Jacksonville’s last three games and in four out of the last five games. In the first matchup between these two teams, Lawrence finished with 25 rushing yards.
Von Miller HIGHER 0.5 Sacks
I know what you are thinking: Von Miller is on the Commanders? It makes sense if you are asking this question, because this has been a season to forget for the Commanders, but Miller has made it clear that he still wants to play football in the future. Even though Washington has not sustained great success to end the season, Miller has been playing good football. He has a sack in three out of the last four games and looks to be fresh and ready to go this week. Miller gets the fortune of playing against Philadelphia’s backups.
Miller is also in the midst of a contract incentive. He needs just one more sack this season to give him nine sacks on the season and be rewarded with $500,000. Given the Hall of Famer’s pedigree in the NFL, Dan Quinn and Washington will give Miller all of the opportunity that he needs to come away with the sack and be rewarded for hitting that incentive. Even against back-ups, Washington might lose this game, but getting Miller the sack that he needs will help a little to soothe a bad season.
Caleb Williams HIGHER 237.5 Passing Yards
Ben Johnson has been a revelation for the Chicago Bears, as he and Caleb Williams have brought some life into a city that so desperately needs it. While Williams certainly has strides to go to be an above-average quarterback in the NFL, he does have the chance to make history in Chicago this week. In the franchise’s 105-year existence, they have not had a 4,000-yard passer. Williams enters Week 18 needing 270 yards to reach this milestone. Williams talked about wanting to reach that mark this preseason, and with how things have been rolling for Chicago this season, it is believable that Johnson and company give Williams the chance to reach the milestone.
Luckily for Williams and the Bears, they get a matchup with the Detroit Lions this week. Detroit has had a season to forget, as injuries on the defensive side of the ball have killed them. Williams is expected to have Luther Burden back this week, while Rome Odunze is questionable to play. Without his full arsenal of weapons, Williams has gone higher than this line in each of the past three games. With history on the line and the swag that Chicago is playing with this season, on top of having a chance to lock up the two seed, Williams will be full go this week.
