The 76ers effectively dominated the middle two quarters in Game 2 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in this best-of-seven Eastern Conference Series. One of the major takeaways from the first two games of this series in Philly was the blatant bias in foul calls. Both Joel Embiid and James Harden are no strangers when it comes to drawing calls and getting to the free-throw line. However, the fact that the Sixers combined to shoot 30 foul shots in Game 2 compared to just 12 for the Raptors is quite disturbing. A shift in the officiating as the series resumes tonight in Toronto could tighten things up in a big way.

In addition to drawing a tough whistle in Games 1 and 2, the Raptors also were dealt the short end of the stick as far as player health. Rookie forward Scottie Barnes sprained his ankle in Game 1. Thanks to the quick turnaround between games, he is doubtful to play in tonight’s NBA betting matchup. Shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. only played ten minutes on Monday before exiting with an illness. Fortunately, Toronto has indicated that he will play in Game 3. Given the tight-knit rotation that Nick Nurse runs in general, the last thing the Raptors can afford if they hope to battle back in this series is another injury. It will be up to Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet to lead the charge offensively again tonight.

76ers vs Raptors Prediction | NBA Betting Picks

Based on how Games 1 and 2 went, one could argue that the Raptors are closer to being swept than they are battling back in this series. He may only be a rookie, but the absence of Scottie Barnes from the Toronto lineup looms incredibly large. The Raptors were already going to be facing an uphill battle on the glass in this series thanks to the presence of Joel Embiid, alone. Flipping the script and winning the battle on the boards would be a huge step in the right direction for Toronto in tonight’s must-win Game 3.

Given that the Raptors’ backs are against the wall, one can assume that they will play with a sense of desperation tonight. Complaining about the officiating after Game 1 backfired big time on Nick Nurse in Game 2 as the disparity in foul calls only grew wider. With the action now shifting north of the border, one has to believe that Toronto will receive a friendlier whistle at home.

Another element to consider when making tonight’s 76ers vs Raptors prediction is that Philadelphia will be without one of its top defenders in Matisse Thybulle. Give credit to Doc Rivers for only playing him ten minutes on Monday night to prep the Sixers for life without him in Canada. That being said, the Raptors were basically without one of their best scorers in Game 2 as well.

If Gary Trent Jr. is indeed feeling better and able to be a full-go tonight, Toronto will gain offense at the same time as Philadelphia loses some defense. In this do-or-die game, the Raptors are an intriguing contrarian underdog playing at home.

Our NBA betting 76ers vs Raptors prediction tonight will be Toronto as a +108 underdog on the moneyline at BetOnline

For what it’s worth, the ESPN Matchup Predictor gives the Raptors a 61.7% chance to win.
