76ers vs Heat Prediction

It goes without saying that no injury looms larger coming into this series than that of 76ers star Joel Embiid. The MVP finalist was already set to have surgery on a torn thumb ligament at the end of the season. Now, there is a real possibility that he may not play again this postseason thanks to a completely separate orbital bone fracture. Embiid may have scored 33 points in the Sixers’ series-clinching win over Toronto, but suffering a facial injury in the process could very well doom Philly’s championship aspirations.

Then, there’s the Heat side of things. Virtually all significant players on the Miami depth chart carry no less than a questionable designation heading into Game 1. The 76ers vs Heat injury report includes Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro and Max Strus. So far, only point guard Kyle Lowry has officially been ruled out for Miami. It will be interesting to see how much if any, oddsmakers adjust the Game 1 lines should other impact players be declared out for tonight’s series-opener.

Assuming all Heat players designated as “questionable” are able to go tonight, one has to give Miami a decisive edge in this matchup. After all, the Heat have already proven this postseason that they can win without two of their top guns in Butler and Lowry. Victor Oladipo and Bam Adebayo carried the Heat to a series-clinching win over Atlanta in Game 5 despite the two key absences. In Oladipo, the Heat truly have an X-factor. He barely played during the regular season but is now fully healthy when it matters most. Along with several unheralded role players, Miami truly has the depth befitting of a championship team. If Embiid fails to return soon, this could be a quick series.

76ers vs Heat Prediction: Heat 106, 76ers 91
