The Minnesota Vikings had another rough season, as they finished 8-9, missing out on the playoffs by one game. One week they are beating the Green Bay Packers and the next they are losing to the Detroit Lions. The roller coaster season led to Mike Zimmer being fired, and now Kevin O’Connell has replaced him. He has some work to do this offseason and below is a little road map of what he needs to do.
Here are three things the Minnesota Vikings must address during the 2022 NFL Offseason if they want to get back to the playoffs.
The Minnesota Vikings are currently more than $15 million over the cap. They cannot restructure Kirk Cousins’s contract, and if they release him, they will incur a $45 million dead cap from it. There is no positive to cutting him. The Vikings need to find a way to get under the cap so they can improve their team.
The Minnesota Vikings defense ranked 30th in the league in yards allowed on the year. The defense did really stop the pass or run, as they both ranked in the 20s for both yards allowed. They need to provide some defensive help on the line and in the DBs. The 12th overall pick in the draft should be used to provide some aid on the defense.
The new head coach needs to provide some consistency going forward with this team. Going from winning against the division leader to losing against the team last into your division is not how you want your team to be run. This team is on the cusp of the playoffs. They need to fix this problem going forward or else they will continue to be right back here again next year.
