While the last NFL Trade Deadline was a boring one, this year should be much more interesting. The next week is expected to have a lot of fireworks, which include a Derrick Henry trade.
Derrick Henry has been one of the most dominant running backs in the last decade. King Henry has run for over 1,500 yards in each of the last three seasons in which he’s played 10 or more games. Due to a variety of factors from Tennessee’s struggles to Henry’s upcoming free agency, it looks as if Henry is available at the NFL Trade Deadline for the right price.
With plenty of teams having capital and interest, these are the three most likely Derrick Henry trade destinations.
Derrick Henry Trade Deadline Destinations | NFL Trade Deadline 2023
Cleveland Browns
Coming into the season, the Cleveland Browns had plenty of reason to be optimistic. Unfortunately, it all crashed down quickly when Nick Chubb tore his ACL in gruesome fashion in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cleveland has shown faith in backup running back Jerome Ford this season, but now Ford is sidelined as well. Ford suffered a low-grade, high ankle sprain in Week 7 against the Colts and is expected to be sidelined 1-2 weeks.
Even though the Browns still have a more than serviceable Kareem Hunt in the backfield, it’s clear that the Browns offense is at its best when they utilize their run-heavy scheme. No running back is more perfect to fill that role than Derrick Henry. With over $35 million in cap space available too, there is no reason Cleveland can’t go out and get Henry for a potential playoff run.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens lost starting running back J.K. Dobbins early this season. Still, they sport a 5-2 record with an offense that is ninth in points scored. Quarterback Lamar Jackson has regained his MVP form, with over 1,600 passing yards, 13 total touchdowns and just three interceptions.
The offense has been on a roll lately, and most recently put up 38 points against the Detroit Lions in a 38-6 drubbing. Now, imagine this offense with Derrick Henry in the backfield. Gus Edwards and Justice Hill are fine running backs, but neither of them are even close to the caliber of Henry. Henry would make stopping Baltimore’s run game even more of a nightmare and could open up even more running lanes for Lamar Jackson as well.
There may not be a team in the league that would become more dangerous at the NFL Trade Deadline from a Derrick Henry trade.

Los Angeles Rams
When thinking of teams that Henry could be traded to, not many would initially think of the Los Angeles Rams. Not only do the Rams have the cap space necessary for a Derrick Henry trade, but they also use his services. Even though the Rams are just 3-4, the race for the playoffs is wide open. With the recent struggles of the San Francisco 49ers, they might be interested in taking the small risk of trading for Henry and see if they can get hot at the right time again.
With breakout running back Kyren Williams surprisingly added to IR before Week 7, the Rams possibly will be without him for three games. Not only would Henry be more than solid as a replacement for Williams, but he would allow the Rams to bring Williams back slowly and utilize him in a purely pass-catching role. With over seven million in cap space available, the Rams have more than enough room to add King Henry to their ranks.
