France will enter the championship as defending champions and seek its 19th title after winning Grand Slam last year, their first title since 2010. Another participating side, England, with record Grand Slams under their belt, has won the most number of Six Nations Championships, won 29 times and shared ten times. Below England, number 1 ranked Wales trails by one title, won 28 times and shared 11 times.

Moreover, Italy, which joined the championship in 2000, will hopefully win their first-ever title this time. Since joining in 2000, Italy has finished at the bottom of the table 17 times, including the last seven years.

2023 Six Nations Rugby Championship Teams:

The following teams will be participating in the 2023 Six Nations championship:

  • England
  • France
  • Wales
  • Scotland
  • Ireland
  • Italy

2023 Six Nations Rugby Championship Format:

Just like the U20 championship, the Six Nations rugby championship will also be played in a round-robin format. All teams will face each other once and accumulate points for wins, determining the winner.

Points Scoring System:

Below is the scoring system of the U20 Six Nations championship 2023:

  • The winning team will receive four points and can receive five points if it scores four or more tries.
  • The losing side won’t receive any points but can get one point if it scores four or more tries by a margin of seven or fewer points and can get two points too if it scores four or more tries and loses by a margin of seven or fewer points.
  • The drawing team will receive two points, and the team scoring four or more tries will receive one point.
  • A team that wins all of its five games (a ‘Grand Slam’) will get three additional points as a reward.

It’s worth mentioning that if teams have the same points, the tiebreakers will be the point differential during the tournament. The second tiebreaker will be the number of points scored. After that, there is no third tiebreaker. The last time was in 1988, when France and Wales tied for the championship and became joint winners.
