With no Olympics this year, the biggest skating event of the year, ‘the 2023 world Figure Skating championships,’ is set to officially kick-off off today, Sunday, March 26, at the 20,0000 seated Saitama Super Arena in Japan.

Canadian Pair of Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier is another pair to give proper challenge in their discipline. They won the Grand Prix final and would be eyeing the World title.

Isabeau Levito, a 16-year-old defending champion from the United States in the world junior discipline, is entering the championship ranked fourth and will be looking to become the youngest world medalist since 2014. I8-year-old Ilia Malinin, who became the first saker to land a quadruple, is seeded second in the men’s field behind defending champion and the Grand Prix Final winner, Shoma Uno.

World Figure Skating Championships Preview:

Sakamoto and Uno Shoma won the women’s singles and Men’s singles categories, respectively. The U.S. skating team won the Gold medal in Pairs for the first time in 1979. At the 2023 World Figure Skating Championships, second-ranked duo Brandon Frazier and Alexa Knierim will be looking to become a duo from their nation to win multiple gold medals in this discipline.

After winning silver medals last year, the world number one ranked duo of Ryuichi Kihara, and Riku Miura will be looking to become the first Paris world title for Japan. Grand Prix Final winner Mai Mihara and Reigning world champion Kaori Sakamoto duo is another pair looking to win the world title for Japan on home soil.

However, there is some competition they’ll be facing from the 2022 World Figure Skating Championship Silver medal winner Loena Hendricks, a 23-year-old Belgian Skater who is entering the tournament after winning another silver.

Silver medal winner in 2015, bronze in 2016, and in 2022, Madison Chock and Evan Bates recorded the world’s top score at last month’s Four Continents Championships in Colorado Springs. They would be looking forward to winning the first gold medal for their nation.
