Will Howard Scouting Report
Strengths
Will Howard has the size everyone wants their franchise quarterback to have. Howard can make throws both when his feet are set and when he is off-platform. He also uses his legs well to buy time or move the chains, and he is capable when making throws when he is on the move as well. Howard has poise in the pocket and can deliver the ball under pressure. He also has experience playing under center, which is not common among NFL prospects.
Weaknesses
Howard’s throwing mechanics are inconsistent. As you can imagine, that leads to inconsistent throws as well. His delivery over the middle wasn’t confident or decisive. He will need to rip it more often than he seemed comfortable with in college. Howard also seemed to be thinking too much in college, playing like a robot instead of actually reading the defense and making plays.
Will Howard NFL Combine Stats
While many players, especially quarterbacks, opted to sit out of the on-field portion of the NFL Combine, Will Howard was one of the few quarterbacks to participate. His throwing was inconsistent, at best, leading to him getting grilled by many on Twitter. However, he is far from the only quarterback to struggle to throw to unfamiliar receivers in an unfamiliar environment, so not much weight should be placed on this.
In terms of Howard’s testing, these are the Combine results of what he did:
- Vertical: 31.5 in
- Broad: 9 feet, 4 in
- 3-Cone: 7.13 sec
- Shuttle: 4.33 sec
